Which mystery would you like to read with us during January 2021?

It's time for a more contemporary English Mystery this time - written after around 1960 please.

Please place your nomination here.

Great! Thanks Barbara. I only knew of him as a game show host (dictionary corner) but he seems to have written quite a lot!

France-Andrée (iphigenie72) | 386 comments It’s so funny, I put this one on my TBR in November. I’d like to second.

Tyler Bishop I second

Seconded, thanks. Any more please?

Susan | 606 comments I had to laugh when I read this book. A lot of reviewers went on and on about him being a game show host but I had never heard of him. I quite enjoyed the book, Barbara. Good choice.

Who else would like to nominate an English Mystery book please? I'm going to add a recent "near miss" The Last Detective by Peter Lovesey as my choice :)

Marie | 31 comments Those both sound interesting!

They do indeed, but we really need a couple more ...

France-Andrée (iphigenie72) | 386 comments With just those two, I already don’t know who to vote for!

message 15: by Meg (new)

Meg Trager (mht07) | 21 comments My nomination for January is ...
The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax #1), by Dorothy Gilman

This is a terrific series about an unexpected heroine.

Aw what a shame. It does sound good, but I'm afraid it's not an English Mystery, Meg. Sorry :(

Maybe you could talk about it in our US authors' thread though?

Would anyone like to nominate another book for January?

Let's have another nomination please, and then I can set up a poll soon. Any English mystery from about 1960 onwards, please :)

message 19: by Mary (new)

Mary Pagones I haven't read this one, but I have already put it on my TBR, because I will pretty much read ANYTHING set in a British boarding school.

It looks interesting!

Pamela Mclaren | 366 comments What do you guys think about Death in the Garden by Elizabeth Ironside?

Ironside is the pseudonym of Lady Catherine Manning, wife of the former British Ambassador to the U.S., Sir David Manning. It was written in 1994 and the first of her five books.

Aw ... but you can see I posted this thread on 1st, and have put several reminders ... never mind Michaela, you can nominate for March's read - and February's golden age one too :)

(I'm all agog to know what it is!)

message 24: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 262 comments No special idea, and all my fault... More into Golden Age anyway, thanks Jean! :)

Oh good. I didn't like to think of you crying, Michaela!

I'll lock this thread now that the poll is posted :)
