I do feel a little oppressed by the huge number of books I may not get to, but I always feel like if the book I am reading is worth my time, I should be really reading it. I'm getting better at giving myself permission to set books aside, unfinished, if they aren't doing it for me.
Yes,if I really like a book,I give it my full attention and don't skim. But the vast majority of books don't fall in this category.
I try not to skim and I definitely try not to put any pressure to read faster so that I get to the next. My TBR is so big I just think of it as a wishlist. If Heaven is worth its salt, it will have a library.
It is frustrating, when I start a new book, I could spend a week going through my shelf and my kindle, then I still find it hard.
Fallen behind on my Net Galley by over 94 books, due to picking my favourite action thrillers on my kindle first.

When I get a new book, it goes to the tail end of my TBR list and gets read after the books ahead of it. There are exceptions, of course - like when a friend gives me an ARC to review.I will quit a book before finishing it if it is exceptionally bad in any way, but those occasions are rare as I tend to stick with authors I know and only trying a new author if the book blurb resonates greatly with me.

So,I have to speed read and skim a lot.
Anyone else have this problem ?
