January 2021 Group Read #2 - Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
I just finished this last week. I believe it's the best from Riley Sager so far! Looking forward to participating in the discussions.
I read this back in the summer and loved it. I gave it 5 stars, my first book by Riley Sager and soon after read his other three books and hope to read 'Things Half in Shadow' a book he wrote under the pseudonym Alan Finn.
I gave Riley Sager a good try (read 3 of his novels: The Last Time I Lied, Lock Every Door, Home Before Dark) and decided he's not an author for me. I LOVE his premises and setups, but the subsequent execution always falls apart for me (too many plot holes and the most interesting aspect often turn out to be just red herring).
Still, I look forward to see everyone's thoughts!
I put a hold on a library copy, if it comes through in time I will join in. If not I will read it late. current wait time says 4 weeks. It will be a close thing....unless some one else in line ahead gets done quickly.

After not being overly impressed with his debut novel, I've devoured all of his subsequent ones this year. He got soooo much better after Final Girls.

This was the first I'd read of his. :)

I read LOCK EVERY DOOR, enjoyed it immensely, and then listened to the audio book with my wife during a long road trip. I do not recall who the narrator was, but she did a first-rate job. I gained new appreciation for Sager, as did my wife.
After looking over my reply, I guess my best endorsement is to do both. Read it first, then check out the audiobook.

Awesome. I read Final Girls from Sager. Interesting premise and fun read. Can’t wait for this one ☝️

i put a hold on this one at the library, but not sure if it'll come through in time for me to participate. fingers crossed it will though. :)

Loved this one! Love Riley Sager. I had to read it as soon as I got my hands on a copy. You’re in for a treat!
I literally just finished this book last night! I’ve read all of Riley Sager’s novels and I’d say this one is second place for me. Lock Every Door is still my favorite. Can’t wait to discuss this one!
Ahh this one looks good too. the choices aren't cheap this month but they sound great... looks like ill be 22$ poorer! My library has them available in 5 and 9 weeks so if I want join I have to buy! sounds like it'll be worth it at least!
Latasha wrote: "I’m on a wait list too. But luckily I have audible credits if it doesn’t come in on time."Ah I do too, not a bad idea. I prefer reading, but it would be better to only purchase one of them, and I think The Hollow Places is my first choice for that. Thanks for the idea!
It’s been a while since I joined a group read, but this one I was drawn to immediately. I haven’t read anything by Riley Sager before.
This will be my first from Riley Eager as wel, and I'm always looking for good horror authors I haven't read before. I'm more drawn to The Hollow Places, after I read that, ill dive in to this one. For those of you that haven't already looked into it, I recommend reading Criterium in the guest author group read. Its short and reads quick, but its a good one!
Hi all!I just started this book yesterday. It's very good so far (just 10% in). It's my first Sager book, too. I wanted to read it for a while and got the Kindle version for 0,99 cents so that was a deal.
Can't wait to discuss it.

just finished it at 1:30am. It turned out to be one of those "I am almost there and need to finish." Very enjoyable and I liked the formatting of the chapters. Revealing just a little bit at a time.
Got started this afternoon and I'm liking it so far. Very easy to read and get into the story. The opening reminds me of (view spoiler)
I've read all the Riley Sager books and he's becoming one of my favorite authors. I read this one last summer but I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks.
I read this when it came out. I think I would have liked this more if I hadn't read everything he has written. I always love the ideas he comes up with for his books, but I feel like he always goes in a safe and predictable direction with them. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't expect that I'll ever really dislike something he writes, but I want him to do something a little more unusual and unexpected.(view spoiler)

I'm about 175 pages in and I'm dying to know what is going on. It's all I can do not to skip to the end and take a peak... Don't worry, I'll be good. :)
