Sofia (sofloaf) | 3641 comments What do you think of the Shadowhunters series?

message 2: by Sofia, Bookish Duck (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) | 3641 comments I personally don't love her writing style or any of her books, but I know they're pretty popular. I've only read two, and I didn't like either. They almost felt like carbon copies of each other.

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments OMG CASSANDRA CLARE IS THE BEST

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments Well technically all the books do relate to eacjother

Yeah, I do know that, but I thought her characters were just... shallow? And Clockwork Angel was sooo similar to City of Bones.

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments I don't love the author, as she is problematic but the books are cool.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments I still didn’t read the infernal devices but I did read the mortal instruments so I guess I don’t know yet.

message 8: by Sofia, Bookish Duck (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) | 3641 comments I didn't realize she was problematic.

message 9: by Sofia, Bookish Duck (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) | 3641 comments Oh, and the incest plotline was....

Interesting.

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments I never knew she was problematic. Huh. Add that to the list of things I didn’t know.

message 11: by andrea (new)

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments Yeah just the fetishizing incest and the Harry Potter (Ginny and Ron romance) fanfiction was too much for me. Not too much to stop reading her books, but I don't feel comfortable worshipping her, ygm?

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments Her books are really good. I gotta say that. Her books are my favorite but she is not my favorite author.

message 13: by Abby (new)

Abby | 6 comments I don't like TMI, but I loved TID and TLH. Over all I like most of her writings.

message 14: by Celi (new)

Celi | 87 comments I read clockwork angel and hated it!
It was trash and too cliché

Sofia (sofloaf) | 3641 comments I just didn't like Will or Tessa. I found them cringy

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments I still didn’t read it so I can’t say anything uet

message 18: by Erin (new)

Erin I literally JUST bought Clockwork Angel (I don't know why i did though... read on for my explanation)

So I read the first five books of the Mortal Instruments and half of the sixth one. That was like a month ago or something. Now, I want to read the rest of the Cassandra Clare books but I feel like I need to finish the Mortal Instruments series first. (let's be honest, i only bought Clockwork Angel cus it was on sale) Now I feel like I need to start the whole series again to read the last half of City of Heavenly Fire before starting the Infernal Devices. I don't know what to do with my life and sorry if this doesn't make any sense at all cus at this point I'm just rambling on and on.

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (boozybook) | 617 comments You don’t need to. They are all different series and not really related to each other

message 20: by Akshita (last edited Dec 16, 2020 01:52AM) (new)

Akshita | 823 comments I have noticed her first books aren't that good.
City of Bones was mediocre. Clockwork Angel was worse.
But if you keep reading, these series are actually fun!
Especially the Infernal Devices. While the first book was a 2.5 star read for me, I ended up giving 5 stars to the last one.

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments My friend did NOT just say that she thought the incest plotline in COB-COG “wasn’t that bad” 💀💀
Like WTF IT WAS DISGUSTING

message 22: by Yumiko (new)

Yumiko (yumiko_thebookgriever) i love everything CC

message 23: by Lucy Tonks (new)

Lucy Tonks (the invisible life of a reader) | 416 comments cassandra clare is my all time favourite author, and i love all her books, but i do understand why other people don't like her works

message 24: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 224 comments I like her books, but her Ron X Ginny ff made me uncomfortable and I don't know much about her outside of her writings, so I don't have an opinion of her as a person

She did the same with The Vampire Diaries! Someone asked if she shipped Damon and Elena or Stefan and Elena and she said "Damon/Stefan" and they are literal brothers???????

message 26: by Luna (new)

Luna (luna13) | 93 comments I have an opinion on her as a person, judging on what I learned from several sources. On her books though, I don't have any opinion on them as I haven't read them yet but I have heard about a lot of dark stuff around the history of her books so I doubt I'll read them with an open mind. I highly doubt they'll become a favorite but we'll see.

message 27: by nαомι (new)

nαомι αndιno (nndno) | 169 comments I personally like the plots in general but I find her characters (especially the females) so bland and basic.
Especially with TMI, I feel like the only characters I like are Alec and Magnus AND THEY DON'T EVEN GET ENOUGH ATTENTION!!

message 28: by Lilly S (new)

Lilly S I've only read CoB but plan to get to CoA and CoG soon, the only reason I'm reading these though is because I've heard it's best to read TMI before you go on, and I've also heard that TMI was originally a trilogy so you don't really need to go on. But yeah, CoB was trash. I disliked all of the characters, the plot itself was kinda lacking, and it was just so long and boring. But, because I want to read all of the books that make people fangirl over CC, I'm trudging on. But yeah would not recommend TMI

message 29: by zoeeeee (new)

zoeeeee | 1 comments am i the only one who doesn't like the dark artifices??? literally it felt like every 10 pages julian would just complain about having to take care of his siblings for so long
