Hi Everyone! I know the year has just begun, but I hope it’s going well for all of you. As discussion leader for the BOTM, I plan on releasing a few questions every other day related to characters, the setting, etc. On Fridays I’d love to hear the progress everyone is making and possibly share predictions for future plot developments. I want to make sure the questions are inclusive regardless of one’s place in the book, but toward the middle of the month, I may start to ask more plot related questions. I’ll be sure to include warnings for any and all spoilers.
So, to begin...
If you were cast into Erilea, which community would you feel most drawn to: nobles/royalty, like Prince Dorian and Chaol Westfall, thieves/assassins like Celaena, or fairies/fae? Why?
I hope this sparks your interest! If you have any discussion suggestions, please feel free to message me. I’ll be posting my response to this prompt soon :)
Hi! Since today’s Friday, I’d love to know who has started reading the BOTM. What kind of progress have you all made? Do you have any predictions? I just realized I forgot to post my response to the previous prompt.
I feel most drawn to the fairies! I love all things magic, and I’d feel most at home in their community. I’ve never quite liked nobility because power often leads to corruption. To the same degree, I don’t think I’d fit in well with any lawbreakers because I consider myself more of a neutral individual. I’m never on the extreme ends of good or evil, if that makes sense.
Wishing you all a wonderful evening :)
Hey! I think I'd love yo be a part of the thieves and assassins haha. I've always loved the bad guys and underdogs in books and stories and admired their badassery lol. Although I'm not quite sure I'd be able to kill someone, that's the community I'd like to belong with :) happy new year everyone.
My copy still hasn't come in either! I was like 8th in line for it and my library still isn't charging late fees, so each request takes foreverrrr.
No worries, thanks for chiming in nonetheless! I agree about the assassins 100%. They are the epitome of badassery, but I couldn’t get myself to join them cause I know I’m far from that level of awesomeness. Plus, I’m not a fan of confrontation so I can’t picture myself doing well with a rough and tumble bunch, unfortunately. That’s why I’m better off with the magical folk lol
On a side note, I haven’t been as active as I’d like to have been these past few days. I just finished a 40-hour job training course so I’m finally back to reading.
Let’s just say, I am very happy with this book. I think it’s great so far and I can’t wait to keep going!!! One of my favorite aspects about this book is the characters. They are so well-developed and I’m already attached to quite a few.
So, I’d like to know, who are three of your favorite characters so far? Who are three of your least favorite characters so far?
I’ll post my response tomorrow morning. I look forward to hearing your thoughts ;)
My main favorite character is Celaena ofc. She's so sassy and confident and brave. Wish I was her haha. Then Chaol and then Nehemia. My least favorite characters are Kaltain (so annoying but I guess that's the purpose), the king and Dorian.
I agree about Celaena! She has to be one of my favorite protagonists considering she’s not only an epic assassin, but she’s also witty and smart. I love Nehemia and Philippa as well. My least favorites definitely have to be the King of Adarlan, Kaltain, and Hollin Havilliard. The king is an absolute menace, Kaltain is an annoying jerk, and Hollin is absolutely crazy. I’m still not sure how to feel about Chaol and Dorian. I like them both, but they each have their flaws; Chaol is wicked stubborn and Dorian is a little too much of a charmer.
Hello again! This book keeps getting better. I’m almost halfway through and I’m obsessed! I wish I had more time to read, but the last week has been crazy.
What do you guys think of Dorian? I’m still not sure how to feel about him yet. Any thoughts?
As someone who has read the whole series twice, I don't want to spoil anything. But he gets a lot of development from the first book. It's Chaol I don't like as much.
I've already read the first two books. I liked Dorian alright in Throne of Glass, but his character does get better in Crown of Midnight.
That’s good to know because I was convinced his character was going to get worse. I’m a little skeptical of Chaol too. The both of them seem to have good qualities, but I’m already bracing myself for them to mess up lol. It’s weird because I’m rooting for them both, but I don’t know who I would want Celaena to end up with. And thanks for not spoiling!
ok sooo i might have already read the first three books in the series this month but... i absolutely loved dorian. In the first book he had that snarky personality and yall he is head over heals for celaena. I also really like celaena and chaols relationship. Like he cares for her but doesnt want to get in between his bestfriend's feeling
At first I didn't like Dorian tbh. I read the first 5 books 2 years ago and the story keeps getting better and changing the direction drastically and that's the only reason I love him now. Because he grows so much as a character and he really is sweet. But in the first book I didn't really liked him. He was proud to be a player and even though he has real feelings for Celaena I'm team Chaol all the way. I think their relationship goes deeper than what Dorian and Celaena seem to have.
Hi guys! I hope all is well :)I must admit, Dorian has really grown on me and so has Chaol. I’m still unsure of who is best for Celaena, but for now, I like them both.
This book has gotten really suspenseful and I’m excited to see how the plot unfolds!
If you were in Celaena’s shoes, would you want to play along with the mysterious events of the glass castle or to shy away from danger?
