I finished reading Long Shot and I didn't think in the beginning that I was going to like this book... First half of the book was dark ( which isn't my type) including everything you can imagine, rape ,abuse, violence, blackmail, but the way the story proceeded was irresistible. The heroine even after suffering a lot never gave up hope and strength.
This book is for every girl out there who has just stepped into her world with dreams and wishes... It will be a reality check as this book reveals the true face of cruelty of the world she's stepping in and what she might have to face if she isn't careful enough..how in a second she might lose her freedom and voice.
This book is also for every woman who's suffering similar abuse or has been the survivor of such reality. It tells you why not to lose hope for a better life and second chances.
I highly recommend reading this book, not only if you like romance, but even if you don't.

That's good you enjoyed it because I struggled with the first half of that book but the second half was awesome. Well prepare yourself for book two.

Carly Richards (carly_richards) | 3 comments I just finished reading Let Love Rule (I read 2-3 memoirs a year). This one - Lenny Kravitz (who is also sexy, sexy, sexy, IMO) was well worth my time!

Also recently finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! Which was great too.

I finished The Cruel Prince and well for tge most part I liked the book especially in the very last part...I have given it 3 stars though, just because it was slow paced..but the story has taken a good turn and hopefully the next books in series are better.

Odette Brethouwer (odettebrethouwer) Ooooh another Darren Shan lover here!! Hi! Oh I loved this series when I was a kid It really got me hooked, and I highly enjoyed it. I remember every 3 months a new one was out and I was at the bookshop as soon as I could to buy and read it! I think I'm gonna reread them one day. I love the writing Darren Shan does, his stories are so well-built. I wish you all the reading joy and everything that comes with it with the rest of the series!

Erica | 1309 comments So Cinder is unavailable right now from the library so I read this instead. Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly
I love Cinderella retellings and this one was an interesting take. It's definitely more Grimm's Cinderella than Disney's. Chance and Fate make a bet on the life of a girl, who happens to be an ugly stepsister. I quite enjoyed it even though it was dark.

Austin George | 471 comments I recently finished reading 'The Girl who Played with Fire', the second book in the Millenium series by late Stieg Larsson. I didn't really enjoy the book despite the fact that it has a rating of 4.24/5 on Goodreads. I rated it 2/5. The first one third of the book, I found it painfully boring. The story picked up after a while and it was readable. But still the story wasn't interesting enough for me. But I still want to read the 3rd book. I want to know how the series concludes.

Oh...well I have also read the book and I liked it.... basically I liked the author's writing style and Salander is my fav character of the series.... she's very unique according to me but yeah I agree that first third of the book was painfully slow and for the better part of the book you have to bear it but still I liked how the plot turned out to be..

Did you read all the three books? Which is your favourite one? I liked the first one more. I rated it 4/5. I am usually parsimonious with my ratings. :) 5 stars are rare. Wanted to give 3 stars for the second book but it took a beating in the first 220 pages or so and hence settled for 2 stars.

In the first book my favourite character was Henrik Vanger. No one in particular in the second book. The Zala character was interesting and enigmatic but I am not going to root for him since he is evil.

message 22: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Well before joining goodreads it had only been Ella Enchanted, but silly goodreads does things like recommendations. So in the last three years I've read five or so for retellings.

Ooh the millenium trilogy is wonderfully complex. Stieg Larsson does like to detail some dry subjects in the books so I can totally understand you finding slow but I enjoyed the whole series and movies. I finally read the fourth book last year which has a new author because Stieg Larsson passed away. David Lagercrantz definitely writes a more streamlined thriller with less political and economical detail.

You definitely have read some retelling!
And good to hear that David writes with less political and economical details... it's kind of boring for me..slows me down.

message 25: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 471 comments Yes Rushali, I am a strict rater. Usually I give 3 or 4 stars and sometimes 2 or 5. Never given a 1 star rating so far though as I am yet to read a horribly bad book.

Oh. I thought you might have completed the Millennium trilogy...Buddy read sounds exciting though I have never done it before as I am kinda new to groups. Can you kindly explain how it's done? I get the gist of it but not the finer details...When do you want to start it? The book is 746 pages long. How many days will you take to read it? I am a slow reader as I like to cherish every word and sentence instead of just skimming over it.

I just finished The Invisible Life of Addie La rue and it was so amazing and beautiful...I don't have words to describe how much I liked it. In short, I loved it! It's a book everyone should once read in their life, there's a lot of things I discovered about life and death through the book. And don't even ask me about the writing style of VE Schwab..it was so damn good, I literally savored each line and thought endlessly "the book's really worth it:your time and money".
The plot and the crafting of the story was another best thing about the book, with arts as timeline of Addie's Life. The beginning and the end both were impeccable.
I had it guessing about Henry's life correctly way ahead it came in the book but that still didn't make the reading experience a little less than five whole stars for me! And the ending was totally unexpected for me..it was a good twist.
All in all, I'll recommend this book to each and everyone. I gave it 5 stars and I am sure you'll not regret reading this masterpiece.

message 30: by yasmine_reads (new)

yasmine_reads (ysmndsntread) I finished reading Lakewood and am rating in a 2.5 stars (3 on Goodreads bc of the whole number scale). I think the book was meant to be plot-driven, but because of the nature of the mystery behind the setting and conflict I think the author should have focused more on the characters and their development:/ wouldn't recommend:(

This was okay so 2 stars from me. Creating super heroes from all different backgrounds is great, but I just didn't enjoy the story and the mc was annoying.

I just finished Archer's Voice and I loved it. Initially, I had thought it won't be something new, just an easy romance but it got better afterwards and I feel this book just grew on me...there were better parts in the last one-fourth of the book. I rated it 4 stars.
If someone is looking for a good romance, they can pick this one up.

My sister liked it better than I did. The two women sending emails back and forth are hilarious and I was hooked on the book. It floats between 2 and 3 stars so.... Ou can always try something and dnf if it's not for you. I would recommend Fangirl or Pumpkinheads for a Rainbow Rowell book over this one for sure.

I finished reading Punk 57 and it was a very unusual romance for me...the heroine was emotionally damaged and not the too good protagonist but I happened to like the book as it gets better when issues resolve. I rated it 4 stars.
