I just found Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman, who is a Noongar woman whose family have belonged to the south coast of Western Australia since long before history started being recorded.
Two books that I have recently read that would fit this category are Winter Counts by David Weska Wanbli Weiden and Crooked Hallelujah by Kelli Jo Ford.
I read Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. A gentle and meditative book, which also raises important issues. I would also recommend Terra Nullius; Potiki; Blue Highways.
I just finished Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. I literally read it in one sitting; I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend it. I stumbled upon an interview with the author and she recommended more indigenous authors. I'm eager to check them out - Eden Robinson, Cherie Dimaline, Cynthia Leitich Smith, Erika T. Wurth, and Marcie Rendon.
