In my eyes, one of the best authors in small anecdotes I’ve come across; Paul Jennings has fulfilled my childhood with classic books that tell and array of small life experiences with unforgettable characters. The book is complied with a combination of nine short quirky stories, each one as entertaining as the other. Although the stories are based around realistic experiences, what makes them brilliant is its fictional twist. Jennings has a tendency of keeping the stories extremely short, which is traditionally based on a character telling a story of an unprecedented experience they have been through.
The entire book is written in very standard manner, unlike other children books that are full of metaphoric similes and other forms writing techniques. Despite this, I still felt that the book had a great sense of character and wittiness about it. It made it almost impossible to put down at times with the reader eager to see the conclusion of each of the character’s experience. Although not all the stories were as captivating, they all served a purpose in presenting small yet effective morals.
I believe that the book is suitable for children aged 9-10, most probably for independent reading. Mainly due to the concept of some of the small stories as well as understanding the subliminal message behind each moral.
