This means you do not have to have the entire book finished by Feb. 1st, you just have to have Chapters One through 19 finished.
In my paperback text, that's pp. 9-161.
The other two weeks amount to around 160 pp. of reading as well.

Good separation Ken. I just put it on hold at the library, so should get it next week in time to get started.
Me, I'm holding off until Jan. 23rd for a start. I like books fresh as a loaf of sourdough bread out of the oven when I have to discuss them.
Which is a nice way of saying I don't trust what PBS would call "This Old Mind."

I'll be starting around the 20th too. And I do love a loaf of sourdough.
Oh my I love sourdough. Whenever we go to San Francisco we always get the sourdough. So yummyThe book will bring up so many things, looking forward to everyone’s input.
I'm with Ken. If I start reading this early, I'd be lost in the discussion. Of course, nerd that I am, when I was in school and they would hand out books to read (yes, I really am old enough to remember schools supplying the books), I would take it home and read the whole thing, then read each section again as it was assigned.
I am just now finishing a reread of The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, for a different book group (wow; great book), and then on to The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, for a third group’s discussion on Jan. 23rd. Only then will I begin our Brontë, and luckily I already have it. Looking forward!
Hi Yvonne. The Poisonwood Bible is one of my all time favorite books! I even taught it in a high school Contemporary Lit class. I just finished Stegner’s Angle of Repose. What an amazing book. I wish I were in a book club to discuss it. But I also have another book to read before beginning Anne Brontë’s. This is the only book club I am in since I have so many other projects. Looking forward to our discussion!
Hi Sandra, Before I saw this note from you, I commented on your entry for Stegner’s Angle of Repose. Some people I’ve given that info in the past have seemed offended. I hope you won’t have that response.
Finished Poisonwood just now, and learned from the author’s afterword in my library’s kindled version of the book that she’s working on a screenplay for an HBO miniseries based on the novel! Zowie!
I love it too. Have a hardcover edition from when she first published it.
Yvonne

Thanks for the information about Poisonwood Bible, Yvonne. I just wish she was developing this for Netflix or Amazon which I already have.
Sue, depending on who provides your TV service, occasionally there's a freebie weekend for HBO, so you could watch for that. Also know that it's not going to be done & broadcast anytime soon -- I see that the IMDB entry for it has no casting information yet.Carol, glad to hear Troublesome Creek is an interesting read. Thanks!
Thanks Yvonne and Diane. I’m behind in my streaming activity anyway so by the time it comes out I will watch for it.
I am realizing that the copy of Tenant I put on hold at our library is not due until February 4. It looks like I might just go ahead and buy a used copy now because I like to have a copy of all of the books we read. I should do the same for Jude the Obscure because that was a library book too.

Ah, a man who still has space on his home bookshelves! Jealousy, thy name is Ken.

Spoken like a true bibliophile.
I use books as doorstops, weights, fans, face covers during naps, place holders, supports, and towers. When they're not doing time on my shelves as background music during Zoom sessions, I mean.

And I have the random book piles that I intend to donate or otherwise get rid of balanced by books on my couch, newer and having no place yet to live in my apartment.
I have a Large Print hard copy of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall ready, but can't actually get hold of it until February 1st, so I'll be bang on date for once!Has anyone noticed that today is Anne Brontë's birthday? She was born on 17th January in 1820.
Hoping to get my book in about a week, so I'll definitely be fresh when the discussion begins! :-)
On 29 January mine is due
It will soon be time to click "renew."
On 24 January I begin
It'll be three weeks before I "fin."

Lovely, Ken!
Just realised I won't be "on time" starting on 1st (duh!) but trailing behind ... I should have access to my book the day after tomorrow, so will begin then and hope to catch up with you all. I've read it before, so hopefully that will help :)

My Oxford World Classic text uses Roman numerals for chapters, but it has chapter titles, too, so this schedule should work for all editions being used by our readers:
****************************************************************
FEB. 1-7: Discussion of Chapters I ("A Discovery") through XIX ("An Incident"). ENDS VOLUME ONE
FEB. 8-14: Discussion of Chapters XX ("Persistence") through XXXVII ("The Neighbor Again"). ENDS VOLUME TWO
FEB. 15-21: Discussion of Chapters XXXVIII ("The Injured Man") through LIII ("Conclusion") ENDS VOLUME THREE AND THE BOOK
