The MFRW Book Place discussion

If a book is set in the 1940's, I would call it historical. But if it's set in the 1970's, 1980's, or 1990's, would it be historical? Or would they be contemporary! Art is called contemporary if it's less than 100 years old. Just wondering.

To me, anything set after 1900 is Vintage Historical. 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. This may not be official, but it does help when it comes to marketing.
Before that is Historical: Georgian, Regency, Victorian. (Civil War, etc..)

So would all of the time periods you covered be classified as "historical?" So Regency doesn't need its own genre here?
