Kristel | 586 comments Most Important Rules:
*Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count for Uno. Countdown to the start of the challenge here !
*All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your Uno shelf
*Books must be more than 100 pages in length
*Children's books, Graphic Novels, Manga, Cook Books, Plays and Poetry books cannot be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 or more than 3 hours of audio using a reputable website (e.g. audible, overdrive)
*Coloured covers need to be at least 50% of a colour. If you are not sure, you can ask by posting in the thread. If we as a team agree with you then you can use it. If we are unsure, the co-caps and I will ask other captains where their answer is binding.
Note! We can also use Tineye (NOT REQUIRED) to figure out the colour, but it's not always the most reliable, so if you are unsure ASK!
*Re-reads are ok provided it has been more than 6 months since last read
*For book titles starting with an article (A/An/The), the article can be ignored or used.

Examples for some of the trickier tasks
Task 7: C.S. Lewis' Narnia Chronicles are all shelved as "Christian".

Task 13: The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde. There Jane Eyre gets kidnapped and brought to the real world & detective Thursday Next discovers a way to jump into books.

Another example: The Book Jumper by M. Glaser or Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.

Clarifications/Clues:
When songs were being chosen, only the songs themselves and their official 80s videos were being considered without reference to later films.

Tasks 16-18; It is all about the video clip
Tasks 22-24;I suggest, you try to concentrate on the clue task 24 may or may not offer.

task 22 should be a clue for the song title
task 23 - how they were wearing their hair in the video
Task 24 - the name of the band/singer

For 10-12, leopard is a very literal clue!

task 1 - name of the band
task 2 - title of the song
task 3 - reference to the singer

Task 23
(a character with permed hair/a character getting their hair permed) gets you 10 points.
The Meg Ryan hair reference will be accepted as an "extra" in any of the books you use for the mini challenge, whether it's for the permed hair or some other task, for that you get 5 bonus points "only".

Task 10 should be the clue for the song title
Task 11 is reference to the artist/band's name

FAQ
*Shelves/MPGs must be exact.

*21. Read a book where the MC is a doctor/nurse - Must be a medical doctor

*For the "Meg Ryan hair" the wording/phrasing can be different as long as the reference is there

*For Scandinavia: Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands & Finland will also be accepted besides Denmark/Norway/Sweden.

*Task 2: A Mage will also count

*Task 33: Everything on cover must be black and white. So something like One of Us is Lying would NOT work for this task

*Q: for MC involved in criminal organisation, can I instead use a non-fic about criminal organisation? specifically thinking Zero Zero Zero, about drug cartels
A: Yes

*For nurse/doctor book, if someone would prefer reading e.g. a memoir-biography by/about a doctor/nurse, that would be acceptable as well.

*Q: For task #30. Read a book with the word "Dance" in the title/ top shelf "Dance". Would "Dances" be okay? One of our members would like to read Dances with Wolves
A: Yes. Plural can be accepted.

*Q: Does it have to be a white suite or will any white clothes do?
A: It needs to be white, male clothing because of the clue-thingy, but I accept white shirt/coat as well. :)

*Q: There's several tasks that are worded...ie
*Read a book where the MC is an only child/a book that's #1 in a series
*Read a book with a pink dress on the cover/with a pink (more than 50%) cover
*Read a book with the word "eclipse" in the title// an eclipse depicted on the cover

Does the '/' mean that we can read for either/or or do both of the qualifications need to be met for the book?

A: it's either-or, whichever choice fits your book better.

Kristel | 586 comments Hi everyone!

I'm your captain Kristel and I'm really excited to play with you all! Uno is one of the few challenges that I'm looking forward to every year. Hoping this one will cure my months-long reading slump😅.

From the admin side, I'll try to get all the necessary information and links to you this week. Work has been killing me and I hope you can be patient with me on that.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! The co-captains and I will answer any question you have.

Elen | 746 comments Hi Everyone and Welcome!

Let's introduce yourselves: Who you are? Where you are from? Have you played UNO before? What types of books do you like to read, any recommendations?

For start. I'm Elen from Estonia. This is my 4th time playing and being co-captain. UNO is probably one of my favourite team challenges. I can't wait to get started and play with you all!

My go-to genres are fantasy, horror/thriller, and sci-fi. And romance is my least favourite of them all.

Like Kristel said if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We'll try our hardest to answer any questions you may have!

Also, Don't forget to add your UNO shelf. Thanks!

UNO shelf: uno-2021

Heather Moore | 405 comments Hi, I’m Heather from Arkansas, US. This is my second year playing UNO. I was on Kristel’s team last year. Super excited to work with her again. I will read anything, but romance and nonfiction are not my favs.

message 16: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Hello, everyone. I'm Jackie from North Carolina in US. I've played a couple of times before and really enjoyed it. I also will read almost anything with mystery and fantasy being my favorites.

I love mysteries and read mostly Nordic crime.

Trinia | 935 comments Howdy friends! 🤠 sorry I’m late to the party, started back to work and it’s kicking my bootie
I live in East Texas and have played Uno 4 times. I co-captained for most of those and am looking forward to just being a team player. Thanks Kristel and Elen for taking the lead, it’s a busy job and I appreciate your time.

I read most anything! But mostly listen to audiobooks 🎧 it’s my way of multitasking ☺️
I can’t wait to get this game started, should be fun 🎉🦹🏼‍♀️

Definite yes for Beloved by Toni Morrison and Guards! Guards! (Discworld, #8; City Watch #1) by Terry Pratchett .

I don't think Float Plan by Trish Doller has enough yellow in it.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky looks more green to me than yellow. I might take this one to the other captains.

What do you all think? I would like to get the teams opinion before I'll go to the captains.

I think it's green with yellow undertone.

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather Moore | 405 comments Well, I can't do Beloved, because I read it in the last 6 months. Completely forgot about it. I got the two yellows off of the uno yellow list, but I don't mind picking other books. So for right now, put me down for Guards! Guards! and I will see what else I can find.

I haven't tried audiobooks yet. I was thinking about it though.

Uno-colour lists arent pre-checked aka people tag books when they THINK it may work. Also sometimes the version that fits the colour is another edition:)

Kristel | 586 comments Finally, here is ourTracking SS

You can add here all the books you are going to read for the uno challenge.
Colum "A" and "Hand number" will be for the captains when we add books to the main SS. In the colour/Card column, you can let us know if your book works for a certain colour (just in case we need to switch books around at the end) or If you are reading it for a certain Colour/WD4 card.

message 41: by Kristel (new)

To echo Elen. You can choose if you want to make a completion post with all the relevant information (read date, cards it works for etc.) here when you finish books or add them all to the tracking SS. No need to do both.

Kristel | 586 comments The Sound of Wings (The Time Corps Chronicles, #4) by Heather Blackwood unfortunately wasn't yellow enough.

Girl, Unframed by Deb Caletti was ruled as red.
