Welcome to this year's amazing UNO edition! I can't wait to see what the mods have in store with the 80's movie theme!I'm Deanna, your captain for this stroll down movie memory lane, and I'm looking forward to enjoying this wonderful reading challenge with you! For those new to UNO, please take some time to read the rules in the first two messages of the All About UNO thread. Let me know if you have any questions or need clarification on anything.
Also please introduce yourself sharing as much or as little as you are comfortable. Let us know some of your favorite books/series/authors, which will help us finding books for Reverse cards.
I'm a stay at home homeschooling mom with 2 college kids, a high schooler, and a middle schooler. I love reading fantasy, paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and thriller books. Some of my favorites include:

Hello everyone, I'm Keely and I'm from the UK. This will be my 3rd year of UNO. I'm currently working in retail, but my contract ends in the middle of Feb and because of tighter restrictions for retails stores coming into place soon, tomorrow might be the last day I actually go to work. So I should, in theory, have lots of time for this challenge. However, I am planning to move to Norway to live with my boyfriend. I hope to get out there as soon as possible to hopefully get things in place for the move, but as the UK is in lockdown, I can't travel and I don't know when I will be able to yet. Even if I make it to Norway while this challenge is still going, I have plenty of books on my kindle and library app along with audiobooks too.
I mostly read fiction with the occasional non-fiction. I tend to enjoy something with a bit of mystery in it, but I will pretty much give anything a go. I've also been trying to read those classics that they say you should read at least once in your life.

I had a quick look at some of the books you have all read (I'm not a stalker, I promise) and there seemed to be books that all of you have read that I planned to read soon so hopefully most of the books I end up reading will be able to be used as reverse if we don't need them for anything else.

Hi team!I’m Sarah. This is my third (fourth?!) year playing UNO and it is one of my favorite challenges. I work in college athletics. My conference announced that we will try to play starting in February - which is going to be crazy!
I really enjoy most books (cliche, I know!). My favorite genre is probably historical fiction or mystery/crime. I am a big sucker for time period everything and the ID channel - so those genres make sense, lol. I jumped on the Bridgerton bandwagon on Netflix, so of course I now have to read the books. Good thing there are eight of them.
I have two cats, Gus (5) and Tibbs (3). Tibbs is epileptic, and getting him to one, let alone three has been amazing. Bonus points if you know their name reference ;-)

Sarah, yeah for your conference restarting! I just got Netflix recently because my daughter needed it for one of her film classes at college. I'll have to check out Bridgerton when I get a chance.
Hi fellow Aliens!! My name is Stephanie feel free to call me Steph :D I am from a small town in North Carolina three hours both ways to the mountains or the beach. I am a stay at home mom with a 7th grader and a 5th grader. I love sitting on my front porch to read and rock when the weather is warmer. This is my 4th year (I believe) playing UNO <3 Either way it has become something I look forward to every year, more so this year being completely homebound due to Covid.
I love paranormal, fantasy, urban legend type of books. I acquired a lot of gift cards for book stores in my area plus my husband got me 3 different series to read. Needless to say I have a stack of books beside my bed that are just waiting for me to start reading. Loved Ready Player One and The Alice Network!
Hey everyone! My name is Zoe and I am super excited to be the co-captain for a team this year! I've done UNO the past two years and have loved it! I live in my thirties and live in Boulder, CO, USA with my cat Christopher and a crazy amount of books (obviously hahah). I work in mental health and also hand make herbal salves and essential oil blends. In my spare time I do the herbalism stuff, read, I love my indoor plants, movies (especially horror/thriller movies and shows), and I'm a big video game nerd.
I love lots of genres but I started using The Story Graph recently and according to that my top genres are: Fantasy, mystery, science fiction, literary fiction, thrillers, and science. I also love young adult and children's (middle grade) stuff as well!
Here are some books that I recommend you read! It is a mix of lots of genres and I've tried to include to colored covers that I remember. I have tried to add a bunch so there are a lot of books to choose from when we need to do Reverse cards. :)

Hello All!I’m Kelly and I’m from the UK. Im currently working at home and home schooling my 4 year old - it’s a challenge but it makes the lock down days fly by! Theres alway time to read though! We live in rural splendour in East Anglia surrounded by fields.
I’m very excited to be receiving the new Matthew Reilly which will be zooming to the top of my TBR list. As well as action/adventure I’m a massive chick lit reader. I have a stack of advance copies of books to read on my kindle as well as a bookshelf of actual books. The Bridgeton books are in that list for me too.
This is my third year of UNO and I always look forward to it. Any wait to get started!

Hello :)My name is Lior and I'm French ! I'm a middle school teacher and I try to finish my History degree on the side.
It's my first time playing UNO and I'm excited ! I enjoy European literary fiction a lot, historical fiction, as well as memoirs written by women.
Apart from reading, I also love cooking and watching movies/series (I'm definitely an indoor kind of person)
Concerning the language of the challenge : I read both in French and English, but I was wondering if a book can be validated into the challenge with its French title ?
I'm really happy to share this experience with this team even though I have never watched the movie Aliens !!
Hey guys! I'm Thury (short for Þuríður) from Iceland. So excited for this challenge, I participated once before but that was a few years ago. I'm a pharmacist and have a 2,5 year old son. I enjoy reading books from most genres but my favourites are non-fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, thrillers, science and classics.Some of my favourite books are:

Have to add that I love the Harry Potter series, LOTR and Twilight. I agree with you guys about the Sookie Stackhouse series but I haven't read the last two yet!
I read quite a lot on my kindle but physical copies are the best (though they take too much space!).
Also, so happy our team is called Team Aliens because I absolutely love that movie :D

I compared books with you all last night and made a list (I do love a good list) and some of your ratings have pushed some books up my to read list. I got so excited to read a couple that I wanted to start straight away, but reminded myself they wouldn't count yet.
Until we start, I'm going to be fishing off a couple of books and probably just read some of the short books I have that wouldn't count for this.
Hi everyone, I'm a student here and probably the youngest one O-OI like all genres except horror (they freak me out every time XD) and I would love to chat with you!! I live in the UK and I wouldn't really recommend any books because they would be more YA/MG. My fav genres of all times are Mystery thrillers, suspense, enemies-to lovers romance, historical fiction and fantasy fiction. I am SUPER excited to participate because it would be my first time to do the UNO challenge and it seems AmAzInG and I'm happy to be in a group with you guys!!
Welcome Stephanie! I've read the first two books in the All Souls Trilogy and really enjoyed them. The third is on my tbr, and I'm hoping to get to it sometime this year.
Hi Everybody my name is Paige, and I live in the US, in the Chicagoland suburbs. I’m 28, have two kids (2 & 6) and I’m a returning full time student. I’ve never played Uno before but I’m very excited!! I usually like to read historical fiction, mainly time-pieces, but I sometimes delve into YA, and YA Fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are: Ellen Hopkins, Elie Weizel, Danielle Steele, Simone Elkeles, and of course JK Rowling. I’m a huge Harry Potter nerd, but I’ve also read all the dystopian series ( Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner). I haven’t added them to my shelf yet, but I just recently bought to read the final two book (4 &5) of the Miss Peregrine’s series, The Wedding Dress by Danielle Steel, and The Girls with No Names by Serena Burdick. I can’t wait to start playing!

Thury, I loved Jurassic Park and Pillars of the Earth. The Poirot audiobooks sound amazing. I wish my library had them available. I set myself a personal challenge to finish up the Sookie Stackhouse series last year and really enjoyed the last two books. I felt like Sookie ended up exactly where she truly belonged.

Well, I love reading mysteries so Karen McManus's books...there are only 4 and I've read them all, I also LOVE the Red queen series which I forgot to mention that I also love dystopian novels. I also really enjoy the Chronicles of Narnia and Sherlock Holmes :) Also like a little romance-the selection
Raya I love YA! Please give us some more recommendations! Red Queen series was definitely fun. The Selection is not my typical choice but I've heard good things about it! Been thinking I should try it...Thury - yesss Aliens is a great movie!! Happy to have you! Iceland has been on my list of places to visit for many many years. :)
Kelly - my friend is finishing up the Bridgerton books right now and loving them - but funnily enough our other friends started them and couldn't get past the second one hahah. To each their own! I hope you like them!

Paige - I reread The Hunger Games once a year now. Love dystopian novels as well. There are probably a couple in my list above. Good Morning, Midnight is one of my favorites though very different from the YA stuff you listed (that I also love!) - more slow paced.

Zoe - you should definitely visit Iceland sometime, the nature is spectacular and the food is good :D Also, there are a lot of good Icelandic authors, especially ones that write crime/thrillers, some have been translated into english f.ex. books by Arnaldur Indriðason and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. Currently reading an Icelandic book called "Spænska veikin" (Spanish flu), a very fitting subject these days!

Pictures of Iceland are almost ALWAYS the backgrounds on my phone. heheh. I even tried teaching myself icelandic for a while there. I did not get very far but it's still something I'd like to try again! :) And I have read maybe a handful of Icelandic authors over the years but nothing recently so thank you for the recommendations! I will add them to my tbr ASAP.

Icelandic is a very difficult language due to the words changing depending on prepositions among other things :'D.
I've decided to finish the Sookie Stackhouse series starting 1. feb (as it turns out I have 4 more left, not 2 haha). Book 10 (Dead in the Family) could work for card number 3 (author surname starts with H) or Reverse :)

So eventually I may recognise a word or two. Either way, I would love to visit Iceland one day.

There’s a few standalone books which are great. There are also a few books that a not a series but have a returning character - The Scarecrow. My favourites however are the Jack West Jnr series. The first book is 7 Ancient Wonders. There will be 7 books in total with the final one out it this year.

It’s called Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore - set in Victorian times. Really good read!

Been thinking I should try..."Hmmmm...because I'm still kind of young (AKA 13 XD), I haven't read like a TON of books, but I'm currently reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue...even though its said to be an adult book... and I DO recommend it because it is just sooO emotional and well thought!! I will start The Book Thief next week, and I would recommend that...because I have watched the movie and its SuPeR interesting. (I know, I know, I shouldnt have read the book first, but I didnt have the book then :)) I would also recommend Looking for Alaska. I was crying for the whole end half XD and I did cry my eyes out!! If you also like Mysteries or murder mysteries, I would totally recommend A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and the sequel Good Girl, Bad Blood (which I havent read yet but I feel that it would be as amazing as the first!!) If you want to see some of my reviews on books that I have read, feel free to check them on my profile and I'm going to start a BookTube channel today, so there will be LOADS of books to review :) Hope this was an interesting list to you :)
Keely - Yes, there are similarities but it's easier for Icelanders to understand Norwegian than vice versa. We learn danish in school so we can understand the Scandinavian languages pretty well (excluding Finnish!). My aunt lives in Norway and really likes it there :)Kelly - that's awesome, happy to hear it was a pleasant experience for you :)

You can add books ahead of time and just fill in the date when you finish or add as you go. If you don't like spreadsheets or are somewhere that you don't have access to the spreadsheet, feel free to just post a completion in this thread. An example would be something like:

In terms of planning, I usually try to get volunteers for the color cards and wild draw 4 cards ahead of time. For February, our color cards are:
0 Blue - Tatiana
1 Red - Sarah
1 Yellow
4 Red - Keely
6 Yellow - Raya
7 Blue
8 Blue - Thury
9 Red - Deanna
Also 4 Wild Draw 4 cards - Keely 0 Blue
If anyone has a color cover for February they want to read, let us know. I have
sitting in my library crate, which will work for either 1 or 9 red.
As I previously mentioned, I plan to read
which works for 4 Red I also have
which works for 0 Blue (the only one on the list as far as I can tell) that I would like to read soon, but I can hold off from reading it if someone else wants to claim 0 Blue. I have a list of some books with coloured covers that I can use and my library also has a pretty good app that I can look on if we need anything in particular.
Would 6 yellow work? Because I have the memoirs of Sherlock Holmes and the cover I'd yellow? So the character would be Sherlock :) I'm kind of cunfused sorry
