MC meets a female vampire while at the police station (waiting to meet probation officer or equivalent). Eventually realizes that she is part of a group (not sure how big) of vampires who now live in town, most of them evil. It makes reference to Carmilla, and resolves with the MC putting seeds/grain on the vampire's front steps, as they cannot enter without counting them all. First time I'd ever heard of that. Read it in 1980's. Paperback with a pink outline on the cover.

I would say thriller. I don't think anyone actually died, but couldn't swear to it. I remember the boy putting seeds on the main step, as above, but don't remember any other weapons, preparations, etc.Thanks
