I once read a review that said that this book shows that girls are beautiful and worth only when they have a boyfriend. To those who have read it, is this true?
I think the movie adaptations weren’t as accurate in some ways but I still loved them! But in my opinion this is one of the cases where the books were better. :)

Well that is not true. Girls don't need a boyfriend to show there worth. Possibly this reviewer was saying that this book shows it but they don't agree with it. I personally do think this book is sexist in ways and does convey that message at times. I did kind of criticize this book for being sexist in my review of it but I feel like it really depends on how you think about it.
I think one reason it is kind of sexist is because Laura Jean had he potential to be a powerful feminist character but wasn't really one.
