In 2020, we heard that 2021 would give us two books, The Assassin and a direct to paperback. Later, his third Hard Case Crime is the direct-to-paperback. And now, on the 3rd of August, we will get Billy Summers, which sounds very much like this will be the actual title for The Assassin. Depending on when Gwendy's Final Task comes out, we could have THREE books this year!

Some info on publishers website (book blurb).

I have it on hold from the library. Unfortunately, I am not sure that it will get to me any time soon. I am #32 on 1 copy. But I will come and join when I can, even if it is in 2056!
Amazon says my copy will arrive on Aug 6th-9th. I'm not sure what the point of pre-ordering is if I'm not going to get it on release day. I'll be waiting impatiently for it to arrive....

Yes that's probably what's happening. I'm not cool enough to be a prime member lol
Earlier I received an email from Amazon saying that my copy will be arriving early by tomorrow. Of course it's going to come tomorrow since I already started reading something else lol oh well I'll pause the one I just started and pick it back up after Billy Summers.
My copy has been dispatched from Amazon! Can’t wait 😃 also hello all, I’ve been in this group a long time but haven’t really interacted much so thought a great time to start would be when there was a new release

I see your updates all the time. So happy you're reading along and I look forward to the discussion. 😎
Derrick wrote: "Earlier I received an email from Amazon saying that my copy will be arriving early by tomorrow. Of course it's going to come tomorrow since I already started reading something else lol oh well I'll..."That happens to me all the time except it's usually the library.
Erin wrote: "Derrick wrote: "Earlier I received an email from Amazon saying that my copy will be arriving early by tomorrow. Of course it's going to come tomorrow since I already started reading something else ..."It's irritating but I'm willing to overlook it since I get to read a new King book. 😎
Sarah wrote: "Thanks Derrick! I actually started it today as soon as my copy arrived 😃"Nice! Unfortunately, I have to wait until I get home from work to start it.

You’ll enjoy it! I’m a few chapters in now and it hooked me right from the beginning
My Amazon pre-order claims it will arrive today by 10pm but it hasn’t even shipped according to the tracking status.Last time I pre-ordered a King book (If It Bleeds) the book took three weeks to arrive and it didn’t even ship until days after the release date.
So, if that happens again with this book, I won’t be pre-ordering King books on Amazon anymore and just go to the store in person and buy it. I do pay for Prime, BTW, so that makes it even more frustrating.
Ohh Nancy that’s awful 🥺 you absolutely should complain to Amazon if you pay for Prime am pretty sure there’s a pre-order guarantee that it should arrive on the pre-order date, or as close to it as possible. If there are delays, they should inform you on the site or via email. The live chat customer support is usually very good at sorting out issues. Seems as though I’ve always been lucky with my orders! I’m trying to buy books less from Amazon though, it’s best to support local independent stores and libraries when you can

This day really needs to hurry so I can get home and start reading!

That sucks! Same thing happened to my cousin today:( hopefully u get it soon!

I do try to buy books from local businesses even if Amazon has lower pricing.
(Goodreads is owned by Amazon. Just found that out a month ago.)
Just received the email that there is a delay in shipping with no new shipping date (have to wait for another email for that). So I cancelled the order and I am picking it up at the store in town.
Hey all! I'm also reading this book in another group read but thought I would also join here as well.I've been a member of this group but haven't really contributed. It's better late then never. ha
Super excited to get into this one and read this with you all!
Nancy wrote: "Just received the email that there is a delay in shipping with no new shipping date (have to wait for another email for that). I'm guessing it's the hard cover edition that you ordered?
Better to just get it at the store today if you can find it! And good luck.

Yay Ginger! I know we've commented on each other's updates but I don't think we've ever read the same book at the same time before.
I received mine this morning and then saw that Chirp Books had the audio for $15.99, so I got that too. I like to read first and then listen a few months later. I can't really dive in until tomorrow, but I can't wait!
Nancy wrote: "Just received the email that there is a delay in shipping with no new shipping date (have to wait for another email for that). Derrick wrote: "Yay Ginger! I know we've commented on each other's updates but I don't think we've ever read the same book at the same time before."Me too Derrick!! Glad to finally read a book with you too!
Nancy wrote: "I left off at Ch 10 last night."You're off to a good start Nancy! How are you liking so far?
I'm only up to Chapter 5 but I do like the character of Billy so far. Lots of layers to him and I'm looking forward to seeing where this book goes.

I m really liking it so far!
I'm about 75 pages in and enjoying it. I've read reviews where people complain about the boring beginning, but I don't find it so.
Kandice wrote: "I'm about 75 pages in and enjoying it. I've read reviews where people complain about the boring beginning, but I don't find it so."I'm with you Kandice! I wish I didn't have an 11 hour work day 🤬 Just kills my reading time. Got into some darker stuff too for a minute there.
Finished this today. I decided to go the audio route this time since I had more available listening time that reading. There's a lot of world and character building in the beginning, so the slow start can be attributed to that, but once the story gets moving, it was hard for me to put down.
Derrick wrote: "I'm with you Kandice! I wish I didn't have an 11 hour work day 🤬 Just kills my reading time. Got into some darker stuff too for a minute there."Yes, that's the truth! All I want to do is read two of the books that I'm dying to read right now and this "work thing" is a real drag. LOL!!
Michael wrote: "Yeah, it's definitely another slow-starter. Good, though."I agree Michael. It's definitely a slow start but I feel like it's building to something suspenseful and a bit crazy.

Who was the narrator by the way and did it work for you? I struggle with audiobooks sometimes just because the narrator's voice doesn't work for me and I've got to go the print version.
