Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments well, imma give a book suggestion right off the bat. almond by won pyung-sohn. i throughly enjoyed it, and thought that it’s perspectives were interesting. the main character, yunjae, is suffering from a condition where he does not feel emotions. i’ve read books with this idea, but none of them were as consistent as this book was. the ending was a bit jarring, but i think it was appropriate for what lead up to it. i recommend this, also probably helps it’s a quick read, i think i read this in 2 days.

Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments (sorry, i was hammered with school and all that, so i was in a bit of a book drought)
ive been reading “inkspell”, the 2nd book in the inkheart trilogy. i absolutely love this series, especially the first book. the world building is magnificent, and the love the characters have for reading almost transcends the pages and onto the reader.
so far (i’m halfway through), this book is making out to be a good sequel, and leaves me hopeful for the final book “inkdeath”. after i finish this specific book, i want to read a LGBTQIA+ book in honor of pride month (happy pride month yall). i think i’m going to read “if i was your girl” by meredith russo. it follows a trans girl as she changes schools. i then plan on reading the handmaid’s tale.
anyway, that’s my update. have a good day and stay safe! <3

Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments ok so… i read “if i was your girl” in a little under 24 hours. i wouldn’t say it’s a rollercoaster of emotions, but it definitely jumbled up my heart. obviously, this is a fantasized version of being trans - the author wants to make that very clear, but this did give me a different perspective on trans youth than i’ve seen in the past.
overall, a quick read. it does get heavy, especially at the end, but i really really liked this.

Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments i read another LGBTQ+ book for pride month. this time, it was “i wish you all the best” by mason deaver. it follows ben, a non-binary teen as they get kicked out of their house after coming out to their parents. it’s both a romance book, while focusing heavily on bens journey to accept who they are, how they fit in with the rest of the LGBTQ+ community, along with becoming more self confident and just growing as a person. it was adorable. mostly lighthearted and fluffy flirting scenes. 4/5 stars

Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments cw: mental illness
another book down. this time i read “what she found in the woods” by josephine angelini. due to the return date from my library, i had to speed-read the ending. you could classify this as a romance thriller, but it was very disappointing in both aspects. the main relationship, lena and bo, included some of my least favorite tropes, such as instant love. the “thriller” aspect didn’t even come into effect until page 200 of 350. too rushed. not to mention, this book’s description of mental illness is absolutely revolting. the author seems to interchangeably use schizophrenia with having a mental breakdown. it also paints using prescribed meds for said mental illness as a horrible option.

Emma Buoye (emma31303) | 2 comments so i finished “she drives me crazy” by kelly quindlen. it was your cliche basketball/cheerleader romance, but wlw. out of all the cliches it followed, my favorite part was enemies to lovers. it was pretty cute, and was pretty average with high school romances. i found the main character, scottie, to constantly stay caught up in the past, which i related to. i liked watching the love interest, irene, slowly open up and evolve with her relationship to scottie, along with dealing with coming out to the school. i was give it a 3.5/5, but it’s a cute read.
