Hannah | 3367 comments I really enjoyed Philippa Gregory’s Tudor series, so when I joined GR, I added all of her other books to my TBR. Wideacre was her first novel, and it is a disturbing story of love and incest. There were aspects of this book that I really enjoyed, but I found the incest and the level of manipulation really disturbing. At the start, I felt sorry for Beatrice, who loves the land her family owns and manages it well, but who, as a woman, will be unable to inherit it, and will be expected to move away when she marries. But within the first 50 pages, I found her to be deceitful, manipulative and obsessed with the idea of inheriting the estate, which later changes to the need for her son to inherit the estate. I will read the second in this trilogy, and probably the third, in the hope that they improve and there in no more incest.

I think the main reason I didn't like this book more was because of the hard content - I just really wasn't expecting it. I have also read the next in this trilogy, although I've only just got around to writing and posting my review, but I did like that one more. I'm hoping to read the third book this month, though it might get pushed to March.
