annapi | 5508 comments Amelia Cynster has decided who she wants for her husband, but knows that Luc Ashford's family is in financial straits. So she approaches him secretly with a proposition - he should marry her for her dowry. In his drunken state he agrees. Amelia is sure she can make him love her once they are wed, but Luc is resistant to the idea of love.

Laurens certainly is fixed in her ways. Once again, a fairly enjoyable story, even with the contrivance of a thief to catch in the second half (whose identity again was blatantly obvious), but so terribly, terribly LOOONG. She even doubles down by increasing the number of seduction scenes which actually become tedious, and Luc's stubbornness truly palls. If not for the ending where other Cynsters make their appearance to help catch the thief, I might have given this 2 stars. As it is, I will give my usual 3.

Jgrace | 3963 comments I agree about the seduction scenes, too many, to repetitious.
I think Laurens and most of these romance writers have a file of sex scenes that they just insert with minor changes whenever they need to fill pages.

But, I still find myself addicted, bag after bag of potato chips .... stuck in a 19th century romance universe. ;)

annapi | 5508 comments I know, I'm on a roll with this series and seem to be semi-binging it!
