I read Mexican Gothic in January but counted it for another category...been wanting to check out Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin so I think I'll go with that one.
Mexican Gothic! Just finished it and it is a total fridge book! If you like sweeping gothic horror you can’t go wrong!
I just finished Children of Chicago, by Cynthia Pelayo. I had a weird issue with the narrator of the audiobook. I found her voice so soothing, it was hard to actually get invested in the story, which does involve teenagers dying and plenty of tension. I finally resolved this issue by speeding it up a bit, making it feel a lot more urgent. I'm very new to audiobooks, so it took me a while to figure this out. I was actually speeding it up to get it over with quicker. Then I started to enjoy the book a lot more. Oh well :)) Only 3 books to go to complete the challenge!
The Route of Ice and Salt by José Luis Zárate.I supported the campaign to get this one translated. It's narrated by the captain of the Demeter, the doomed ship that brought Dracula to England. It is written in intentionally ornate, gothic language (wonderfully translated), has several scenes of gay erotica, occasionally involving rats (no, really), and some truly creepy scenes. A book like no other.
