Play Book Tag discussion

This is a book I had been meaning to read for a while, but didn’t get to last year. It is based on author Alex Haley’s family history, and begins with the story of his 4th-times great-grandfather who was captured in Africa and brought to the US as an enslaved man. I was engaged in this book right from the first page, and Haley is certainly a great story teller. The book focuses on three of his ancestors, and their stories are much more detailed than the other relatives he mentions, with the book becoming much less detailed and engaging as it moved away from Kunte Kinte. I found this to be disappointing, as I would have liked to see more of and learn more about his female ancestors, although as the book is already 700+ pages, I can understand that something needed to be left out.
