The Book Club for Exhausted People Who Work All the Time discussion

At the meeting tonight, we talked a lot about who or what is evil in the book and whether or not Preobrazhensky is a good guy or a bad guy. He talks about treating Sharik with kindness instead of force and cruelty, but at the same time some of his actions seem manipulative or self-interested. Does anyone have any further thoughts or comments? For those of you who couldn't make the meeting, do you have any thoughts or points you'd like to discuss?
