April 2021 Nominations
I’l nominate what seems to be a very popular historical fiction novel lately but “The Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah.

I'd like to nominate Big Orange Flying Dinner Plate. Luther Guin begins his novel in the 1920s, where most of the story unfolds, with the climax occurring in the 1940s, and ends in the 1960s. His descriptive style captures the feel of the Great Depression era.
I'd like to nominate The Secret Diaries of Juan Luis Vives: A Novel by Tim Darcy Ellis. It takes place in 1522, Spanish Netherlands.

This appears to be much more fantasy/sci-fi than historical fiction. I'm not going to count it this time.

I will nominate The Weight of Salt by Sandra Montanino. Florida, 1906 – In the northeast section of Tampa, called Ybor City and known as The Cigar Capital of the World, comes an intimate part of American history that is seldom found in books and susceptible to be forgotten.
Although fiction, The Weight of Salt is inspired by a real person, a real time, and real events. Fifteen-year-old, Angelina Pirrello is bright and excited for her life to begin when she is abruptly torn from her mother’s love and is left to abide by her father’s rigid Italian beliefs. It is the era of unprecedented immigration, the Mafia is terrorizing Italian neighborhoods and store owners, and the fierce fight of the Suffragettes to gain the vote for women.
It is a time when dreams of American freedoms are celebrated and threatened. The old world across the sea clashes with the new, and a young girl must make a choice to fortify or forfeit her spirit. Yet, in the midst of the biggest fire in Florida’s history, and the loss of legions of cigar factories, amid the chaos, Angelina unexpectedly encounters Rolando and soon discovers the force of falling in love. Yet, her dreams are quickly shattered when her father ignores her desire to marry for love and promises her hand in an arranged marriage to an older man she dislikes.
This novel touches on every human emotion, love, joy, heartbreak, passion, and the unexpected. Only because those who lived this story have passed away and cannot testify, this novel is historical fiction and not simply historical fact.
With powerful insight and sensitivity, Sandra Montanino’s debut novel illuminates this long-ago story. She brings us a beautiful, warm, inspiring, yet heartbreakingly novel that celebrates the resilience of one girl. This is a novel for everyone and a tribute to those who lived through it all and those that told and retold their story.

I missed them because I've been checking the thread in my limited spare seconds today. I link the read shelf in the very first comment every time I create a new nomination thread. Please take a few minutes to glance over it before nominating a book. As mentioned several times before, moderators are volunteers. We don't have unlimited time. Things like this are done in our spare time and that time is wasted when group members can't take two seconds to help out by checking things like the group shelf or the nomination requirements.

So.....freebie! For April I'm looking for any historical fiction novel. That's it. All I'm asking is for the book to be historical fiction (it also must keep to the other rules of the nomination process).
REMINDERS
NO SELF-NOMINATIONS - I'm deleting the comment and the commenter without warning. There's been enough warnings and the rules are pretty clear.
ALL MEMBERS GET ONE NOMINATION AND ONE SECOND - Please be sure to clearly state if you are nominating or seconding a book. Extra chatter makes the thread difficult to keep track of resulting in moderators screwing things up which results in group members pointing out that moderators have screwed up.
NOMINATIONS MUST INCLUDE TITLE AND AUTHOR TO BE COUNTED - You do not have to link the book. Just as long as you have both requirements.
BOOKS IN A SERIES WILL NOT BE READ OUT OF ORDER - If you nominate a book that is the fourth in a series but we've only read the first and second, it won't count.
For the full breakdown of the nomination process and rules please see this thread - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
All of the previous group reads can be found here - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
This thread will remain active until 2/15.
