Can you believe it's October already?! Time's flying by - we must be having fun, right?
This month we have two excellent Book of the Month selections for you:
For science fiction, a true classic of the genre: The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.
And for fantasy, an excellent standalone novel: To Ride Hell's Chasm by Janny Wurts.
Most of you probably know that Janny Wurts is a member of our group, so this month, as a special treat, we'll have the opportunity to discuss the novel with the author! I've invited Janny to "host" the discussion, so she'll be posting some topics throughout the month - and of course this is also a great opportunity to get any questions about the author and her works answered.
For the SF book, The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, I'd actually like to ask if anyone wants to volunteer to lead the discussion. I haven't read the novel in over 15 years, so my memories of it are quite vague. Please shoot me a message if you're interested.
As always, we have set up polls for you to register your opinion of our BotMs. Please take a moment to vote, as your votes decide which books move into our Hall of Fame. We need at least 10 votes for a book to eligible to enter the Hall of Fame. The polls stay open for 3 months, so there's plenty of time to cast or change your vote.
And a quick note about those polls, just to make sure ... our scale goes from 10 (best) to 1 (worst). I saw a few "3" votes in the last few polls, and just want to make sure that person didn't mean "3 stars". :)
The polls for December just ended, so we now have the schedule for the rest of the year:
November FANTASY
Brokedown Palace by Steven Brust
November SCIENCE FICTION
Blindsight by Peter Watts
December FANTASY
The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 by Christopher Moore
December SCIENCE FICTION
Remnant Population by Elizabeth Moon
As always, we also have the "What else are you reading in October" topic, so please let us know what you're reading if you didn't check out our Books of the Month this time.
That's it for now. Enjoy and... get reading!
