Dear friend,

A new book by Quentin S. Crisp is always great news, and thus I’m happy to bring you excellent news: “Binturong Time” is due for publication very soon!

BINTURONG TIME
by Quentin S. Crisp

“The taxi ride was longer than he had expected, although perhaps length was not the only dimension in question. Still jetlagged, he had not kept track of time. Anyway, at some point he was surprised they had not stopped yet, and grew wakeful to watersheds in the city scenery around them. Instead of being the linear A-to-B he’d had in mind, the journey swelled like an ox-bow lake into something fuller and curvier. The tall and close-packed buildings that had limited the view fell away and the taxi entered stretches of those wide, speed-facilitating roads that are to cars as the ocean is to fish. The city then decorated the far rim and mid-distance of the view, as if its purpose was to add a grand scale to the sense of the car’s rolling freedom.”

“Binturong Time” comes in 3 editions:

199 hand-numbered hardcover books, bound in Asian silk, imported especially for this title. Zagava’s trade mark die-cut reveals a view on a drawing by British artist Natalie Kay Thatcher. Head- and tailband and a silk ribbon complete this edition.

24 lettered signed exemplars are protected by a silk-covered slipcase.

In approx 6 weeks a paperback will be available through Amazon from all international marketplaces as well.

A luxurious 7 by 21cm bookmark comes with both limited editions.

THE ANTIQUARIAN’S STORY
by Thomas Strømsholt

“The Antiquarian’s Story” by Thomas Strømsholt is the next title in the popular chapbooks series. As always, this will be available for one month only (in this case till the 2nd of June). All orders received till this date determine the print-run – no additional copies will be printed.

“Although little was known about the Buchenhain book collection, it was sufficient to cause quite a stir within the book trade when, following the death of Karl W. Buchenhain, it was put up for sale. Through certain connections, and admittedly employing tactics that might be deemed a little on the wrong side of ethics, I successfully outmanoeuvred my colleagues in the race to gain buyer’s right. The book game is not for the squeamish.”

WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

Since some friends of Zagava missed single titles of this chapbook series, Zagava now offers all 12 Infra-Noir chapbooks published in 2020 as an inexpensive paperback!

If you want all of the brilliant stories by D.P. Watt, Mark Valentine, Jonathan Wood, Mark Samuels, Reggie Oliver, Rebecca Lloyd, Karim Ghahwagi, Timothy Jarvis, Ray B. Russell and Rosalie Parker all in one affordable place, this is the book for you.

Another new paperback is Louis Marvick’s “The Friendly Examiner” trilogy which will be ready to order in a few hours in one collected paperback edition, too.

… it is 4 months now that the brilliant Ron Weighell went. Our memories and his outstanding works will continue to be with us. His wife Fran and our friend Mark Valentine have compiled this comprehensive bibliography:

Jonathan Wood’s “Shadows of London” arrived yesterday and shipping will start on Monday.

Two chapbooks arrived as well and most of these were shipped in the last few days: “The Book of Unwona” by Colin Insole and “New Adelphi” by John Howard.

Recently there was a discussion on Thomas Ligotti Online about Avalon Brantley’s widely scattered short stories. I decided to start a new series of miniature paperbacks in A8 format (5 by 7 cm).
Avy’s story “Grandfather” will be the first entry in this collectable series in the early summer.

Speaking about book size: the first exemplars of the huge (32 by 48 cm) artist edition of the Nick Blinko book have arrived and have been carefully wrapped up in black, custom-made shipping boxes. On Monday, 3 more of these tomes will be shipped.

Stay well and take care,
Jonas

The Wanderer by Timothy J. Jarvis was a group read for Literary Horror. I got the ebook, which was absurdly cheap.

Dear friend,

It is my absolute pleasure to announce a new book by Ray B. Russell!

HEAVEN’S HILL
by R.B. Russell

“Ruth Pritchard’s childhood friend, Oliver Dacey, works for GCHQ. He claims that after receiving strange messages broadcast on an outdated cold war radio station he is able to travel in time. He involves Ruth and, inevitably, the authorities take an interest in both of them. At the heart of the mystery is Oliver’s mother, Dee, who directed them in games when they were children--games that bear an uncanny resemblance to the broadcast messages.
Ruth and Oliver travel back to 1965 together, and find that Dee is still directing them. It is a glamorous, but often confusing and frightening world …”

This title will be published in 3 editions:

A signed lettered edition, bound in finest purple leather and comes with a lathe-cut 7" vinyl with music composed and performed by the author manufactured by Bladud Flies/The Bricoleur. The edges are black, the title is embossed in silver on the spine and the front cover is adorned with a silver embossed design depicting a record. Head- and tailband and a purple silk ribbon marker complete this edition. A Zagava clamshell with perpex window will be offered on demand.

The numbered edition of just 199 exemplars is bound in black fabric and bears Zagava‘s trademark die-cut through which we see the book's title designed to emulate the style of an old school record label. The title is embossed on the spine in purple as well. This edition comes with head- and tailband and a purple silk bookmarker.
Both hardcover editions come with a deluxe bookmark printed on finest cardboard.

Later a paperback edition will be offered.

A HIVE OF PAIN
by D.P. Watt

September’s handsewn chapbook, printed on finest paper with deckled edges, is D.P. Watt’s story “The Hive of Pain”, which I had the honour to publish for the first time in our homage to J.K. Huysmans “Transactions of the Flesh” in 2014.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

The numbered edition of Moriah arrived yesterday and shipping will start this week.
Signature sheets of the lettered edition are on their way to Daniel Mills and this edition can be bound upon their return. Meanwhile a paperback edition and – a premiere – eBook is available from all Amazon marketplaces.

Fantastic news for all Nick Blinko fans: an original sketchbook from the 80s is presently fedexed to Zagava headquarters and a facsimile edition of this rare sketchbook will be published soon. This unique book can be pre-ordered from 1st of October onwards. More details will follow on Zagava’s Facebook und Instagram pages.

Mark Valentine has kindly agreed to be the editor on a book devoted to L.A. Lewis. 12 brilliant authors sent their texts and you can expect a very unusual book, with fascinating visualizations by Eli John! More details will follow soon.

Two more beautiful bookmarks arrived from the printers and will be sent with the according Samuels books.

Finally there are new notebooks! These are manufactured using the same acid-free Austrian paper used for most Zagava books. They have black endpapers and 64 pages. Notebooks with 100 pages available upon on request.

The wonderful Louis Marvick visited Zagava and together with a friend and the author Martin Ruf we haunted the city’s bookshops and landmarks.

With all my best wishes!
Jonas
