Allen Cross | 51 comments Not sure how to find my twin, but I made it here!

message 3: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Found it!

message 4: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Nice work!

message 5: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Just got the book last night and managed to read through up to chapter 3 before I fell asleep!

message 6: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I just finished chapter 10. Its fresh to read from his pov.my last few reads where in the 3rd person.

message 7: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Agreed. And same on my progress - got to chapter 11! Usually the story of Troy is told from Achilles’ perspective or some other person, but it’s refreshing to see Patroclus because he gets brushed over a lot of the time. Also, who or how do we report our pages read to the group? I’m a little new to this.

message 8: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments The way it works is that if you signed up, you have been assigned a twin (below) and throughout the whole month you will be buddy reading books to earn points based on the length of the book. The pair with the most points at the end of the challenge wins!

Your buddy and you must read the same book, and all books must be over 100 pages to count.

All of this information and topics to discuss and plan with your twin will be in the group shortly.

To log a book, fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FA...
Please DO NOT fill out the form multiple times for one book and only one of you should log the book.

Point System
(book must be at least 100 pages)
100-199: 1 point
200-299: 2 points
300-399: 3 points
400-499: 4 points
500-599: 5 points
600-699: 6 points
700-799: 7 points
800+: 8 points

Allen Cross | 51 comments Ah, okay. So we have to finish the book first. Got it.

I’m halfway through this one because I had a slow-ish day at work. Have to thank you again for bringing it to my attention. Very enjoyable so far!

message 10: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Yes i like it more then I thought i would! Im at the middle of cheaper 26right now. And its 16:30pm here so i really think i might finish it today 🙈

message 11: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Awesome! Nice job. You might get ahead of me, which is fine, but did you have thoughts for what to read next? We may want to put together a list of some kind, haha. Do we necessarily have to read the same book if one of us finished before the other? Like, could you read a book you’ve already started while I catch up?

message 12: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments We can make a list that a good one!

I think that should be fine. Aslong as we fill out the form when the last one is finished so its fair (?).

What do you want to read?

message 14: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Btw i finished!

message 15: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Nice! Yeah, I have a list here...

1. Phantom by Terry Goodkind
2. Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
3. Shadow and Bone
4. Six of Crows
5. Farlander by Col Buchanan
6. Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook
7. Black Fortunes by Shomari Wills
8. Days of Distraction by Alexandra Chang

Dance of Thieves and Ash Princess sound cool too though. Do we maybe want to pick a small book series? That way we have a book to go to.

Also, I hope to finish Song of Achilles tomorrow. Work was rough today.

message 16: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Oehh those books sound good aswell.

Im uo to read anything so if there is something that you really want to read next. Let me know and we will do that one!

Good luck and hopefully work will be a bit better today!

message 17: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments My girlfriend got me Farlander for Christmas. And it has a second book, so if we like it, we have another one to go to. It seems interesting, and it’s main fantasy race/country is made up of Black assassins. You rarely get Black characters in a fantasy world, so I wanted to check it out. What do you think?

Oh, and girlfriend got me the physical book so if you have trouble getting an ebook version, let me know.

message 18: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Sounds good i will check for the ebook right now!

message 19: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Found it. By Col Buchanan right ? If its a go i will start tonight🙂

message 20: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Yup. That’s it. Awesome. I’m excited to read it. Glad to have a reading buddy to enjoy it with me too.

message 21: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Done with Song of Achilles. I’m a grown ass straight man, not ashamed to say I bawled my eyes out at that ending. God damn. Good read! I registered the book in the Google forms then.

message 22: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Yeah the last few chapters really got me! I rarely cry when i read a book but this one got me. Even tho i knew what would happen. I also really like how they wrote the story i got a different feeling while reading this one! Loved it!

I fell asleep yesterday but purchased the book so we will be starting together 🙂
Really exited to read this one

message 23: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Definitely. I hate how Patroclus gets sidelined in every Trojan War adaptation because, historically, he’s pretty important to the legend. I knew how it would end, but I expected it to be over once he was killed. Instead, he was this silent observer for the remainder of the story, which actually made it more tragic when he couldn’t reach out to Achilles and talk him out of it. They had chemistry too, which yeah, I’m not the target demographic for romance stuff, but I still enjoy it when it’s done well.

Awesome! If we like Farlander, there’s apparently a second book too (Stands a Shadow), so we have a potential next read once we’re through this one. Let’s see how this one goes.

message 24: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I got till chapter 4 before bed. So far i like it. I had a hard time getting trough the first twi chapters tho. But now im getting in to it soo lets see how it go’s!

message 25: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Yeah, this writer really likes worldbuilding exposition. Hopefully we get through it and understand the fantasy world better when the major story stuff hits. I have a soft spot for Nico, though Ash is pretty cool. At least we have interesting lead characters.

message 26: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Sorry had a crazy bussy weekend. Managed to read one chapter 😰. Tomorrow i have a slow day so will be doing a lot of reading!

message 27: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Don’t worry about it. I had a busy weekend as well. We can do it though!

message 28: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Got to chapter 24 today! I think that i might finish tomorrow.
I love Ash and Nico’s relationship! But the story is kinda slow we get Nico’s training and its a big part of the book but I expected more assassins action. However it might be billed up for book two.
I don’t know hoe far you are but right its getting more exiting so very eager to see what will happen next!

message 29: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Agreed. They’re interesting characters to read through. I even find Kirkus’ chapters fun to read, though the character is an asshole. I’m a bit further ahead, and it gets to some assassin stuff soon. Don’t worry. But the air ship battle was awesome. A bit gory, but you could really feel the action and intensity of a battle like that. So, it seems like this author knows how to write action, and I look forward to how the final act will be.

message 30: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments God-fucking-dammit... I got to the final act, I’m pretty sure. Oh man. If you’re not there yet, let me just say it gets intense.

message 31: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I finished and im so angry. I trowed my phone away! When i got what was happening.
I’s so sad right now.
I want the Matriarch Sasheen dead. I get that they wanted revenge but i Nico..
Im looking forward to see where the story is going to take us now. Are we getting revenge is there another plot..?

The prologue got me a bit confused but i bet its gonna be clearer when i read book 2.

message 32: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Yeah, my internal thoughts just got progressively more depressing as it went on. First, it was, “I hope they reach him in time.” Went to, “You know, just fucking kill him already.” By the end. That was a terrible thing to happen, but I liked the book itself. We wouldn’t have felt that powerful ending if the author hadn’t created such good characters and story.

Oh, I wasn’t aware we were starting the second one. I wanted to wait to see if you liked the first one enough to move to the next one before I did. I’ll get to purchasing it tomorrow then. I want to have both the physical books to add to my shelf. But hopefully that bitch gets what’s coming to her, eh?

message 33: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments After a ending like that i need to see what happens to the b..

message 34: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Definitely. And I looked again, and apparently there’s a third one in the series - The Black Dream. We don’t have to read the whole series, of course. But I wanted to let you know.

message 35: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments I also logged Farlander in the form for us.

message 36: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments So, problem - they don’t have the books in my area’s stores apparently. I have to order them online and the shipping will take a few days. Do we want to start a different book for now till I get it? I’d prefer not to buy the ebook if I know I’m going to want the physical book collection at some point. I can resend my list.

message 37: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Yeah no problem i get that :), witch one do you want to read in the meanwhile?

message 38: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments How about Dance of Thieves? That has a decent number of pages, and is on your book list. I also think it looks interesting.

message 39: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Ooh yeah sure! I will buy the ebook rught now! (First searfh in my bookshelf cuz i have a feeling thats ot some where there aswell...

message 40: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I got him on my shelf in hardcover. So i will read it via e-book (not risking cracking the spine, i don’t even know why i buy hardcovers I always end up reading them on my tablet or phone).
My friend had it on her phone and shared it. So i don’t have to buy it again. If you want i can share it with you?

message 41: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments That’s okay. I appreciate the offer, but I work 10+ hours a day on a computer, and my eyes can’t handle too much screen time on my off hours. I can read on my Kindle because I have the lighting off so it reads like paper. My phone strains my eyes. Anyway, I’m at work now, so I will get the book off my Kindle once I get home tonight. Let’s hope a likable character doesn’t die in this one, haha.

message 42: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments So update, im almost done with Dance of Thieves. I like the story. Im just not feeling the mission and dilemma with it 😂 i think there is a bigger plot it it all and it will reveal itself in the end i hope 😂 or i will really be confused

message 43: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I finished it and the plot is still odd. The twist where not really twists but it was enjoyable. I will start the second one while im waiting to hear what we are going to read next :)!

message 44: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Awesome! I’m slightly behind as this week at work has been busy, and that’s when I can get some serious reading done during the day. But I will get it done. Stands a Shadow did come in the mail the other day, so if you’re not up for Dance of Thieves part 2 then we can switch to that. I appreciate your flexibility in waiting on me to get the physical book.

message 45: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Im good with both. We can do both ? I started with book 2 vow of thieves. Witch had a lot of facepalm moments 😂😂 but i enjoying it nevertheless.
Just let me know with one you want to read first so i will finish that one before finishing the other one 🙂

message 46: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments That’s fine. I apologize for lagging us a bit, but this has been great to get me into reading more than usual, so thank you for keeping up with it alongside me. I expect I’ll finish Dance of Thieves by the end of the week, and we can switch to Stands a Shadow after that.

message 47: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments Okayy😊😊
No prob! I’m a semi fast reader so no worries😊 im enjoying the reading as well. Started on new stories and books that where forgotten in my TBR 😊

message 48: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Yeah, when I get time away from work and life, I can easily read through 100+ pages. But I’m old and have adult responsibilities that hamper my reading, haha. Still glad to have the hobby with me to this day.

message 49: by Tela (new)

Tela (tvdgaarden) | 28 comments I finished vow of thieves first. Since i still had the story and characters fresh in mind that felt more logical and i got faster trough it.
Now a little over the middle of stands a shadow! So far do good

message 50: by Allen (new)

Allen Cross | 51 comments Nice work! I’m almost done with Dance of Thieves. Had to work over the weekend, so not much time to read, but I’m sneaking pages in here or there when I can. Luckily, it’s easy to read. Nothing dense and complicated.
