Jesus and John Wayne is a brilliant book. For those of us who lived through it, its also disheartening. When she discussed the period from about 1998-2002 I vividly remember the people she spoke of (Josh Harris, John Eldridge). I am also grateful I was only on the fringes of that world, as once she got to 2004ish I was not really reading those folks anymore.
By then I had been corrupted/saved by my Anabaptist friends! Haha.
I’m about halfway through Jesus and John Wayne now. I’m glad to say that I’m just barely too young for the John Wayne reference to land with me, though I’m still too aware of the type of masculinity that the book speaks of at length. I’ve been gifted no less than 3 Joshua Harris books in my lifetime and I grew up just an hour’s drive away from the Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs. I’ve been there many times. I much prefer Anabaptistm. :)

My family vacationed to Colorado when I was a teenager. Had to swing by Focus on the Family......

I listened to her speak at a online "pub night" and the first night I cried having NOT been raised in that, yet cried the next day as I DID raise my kids in that and some of my own baggage (relating to men) comes from exactly what she talked about. I need to reread her book!
