Garrett (gmreadsbooks) | 10 comments Greetings everyone!

Tell us a little about yourself. šŸ™‚

I'm Garrett, 29 years old from Toronto, Canada. I've been on this site since 2015 and it's been a lifeline during lockdown especially given that a goal of mine prior had been to join a book club. This was the next best thing in the interim. Lately I've been into pop sci and M/M fiction and other than reading I enjoy traveling, music, fitness, the outdoors, cooking, and biking.

Looking forward to hearing from others!

Javier | 2 comments Hi! I’m Javier, 38 years old from Spain. I’m a medical examiner, and if that was’t clue enough, my favorite genre is mysteries and thrillers (shocking! šŸ˜…). I’ve been on goodreads for several years but didn’t really start interacting with other people until I started writing reviews a year and a half ago. This was also a lifeline for me during last year’s lockdown. Since then I’ve created my own blog and a bookstagram account, cause reading is my passion, followed closely by traveling and baking.

Happy reading!

message 3: by Dejan (new)

Dejan Kalabić Hello! I'm Dejan, almost 28 years old from Ljubljana, capital city of Slovenia :) I've been on this site for a while now. Why? The reason is probably the same as yours is - I love and have loved books since forever. I enjoy art in general - movies, music, creating, writing, photography (you can visit my Insta: @http404.notfound) etc... and I'm more of an introvert ;) My favorite book genre are thrillers. Happy reading, folks!

message 4: by Brian (new)

Brian Hi! I'm Brian, 48 and live in Ottawa, Canada with my partner, son, and greyhound. I love mm romance, gay fiction, comics--pretty much any kind of genre fiction. Also a big soap fan. Total introvert/homebody here, so Goodreads has been amazing during the the pandemic. I'm really looking forward to meeting others in the group!

message 5: by Daniel Archer (new)

Daniel Archer | 1 comments Hi. šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ I'm Daniel, 48, originally from Los Angeles and San Francisco but France has been home for many years. I am married so I'm not looking to "find cute, bookish (boy)friends" but I wish all you single guys the best in your search! šŸ‘¬ I just like making new Goodreads friends so I can see what everyone is reading! Cheers! šŸ“š šŸ„‚

message 6: by Bruno (new)

Bruno | 1 comments Hey y’all.
I’m Bruno! I’m 25 years old and I’m from Germany. :)
I’ve been here for 3 years now and after being unmotivated to do anything last year I’m finally back into reading a lot. :)
I don’t really have any favorite genres but I’m very much into mythology.
Other than that I’m into music - writing and singing my own songs - movies and being outside a lot, going in concerts and hanging out with friends although this isn’t quite possible at the moment.
Looking forward to everything that comes from this group. :)
xx

message 7: by Samuel (new)

Samuel Oden | 1 comments What’s up guys?
My name is Samuel. I am 27 years old and live in Detroit, Michigan. I’m originally from the south. Grew up in Alabama and then lived in Georgia for 6 years. Yes, I still have my southern accent. Didn’t lose it when I moved up north. Haha. I’m a Flight Attendant! So, I’m all over the place! It’s the best job in the world. Never feels like work. Just feels like fun! I love traveling the globe with a book....okay, okay maybe 5 books in my suitcase! 🤪 I’ve always wanted to join a book club. I’m the only one in my family that picked up reading from my grandmother. Anyways, I’m very social and enjoy making new friends. So, HELLO to all! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

Vƭctor | 1 comments Hi! I'm Vƭctor, I'm 36 years old and live in Mexico City. I'm a translator and I belong to a collective dedicated to community building and resource economy in the queer community. I'm interƩs in all kinds of literature, but the postmodern experimental erotic one has a special place in my heart.

message 9: by Rossi (new)

Rossi (rossifreddo) | 1 comments Ciao guys! I’m Rossi, 26 years old, and from a place just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. Yes, THE home of Shakespeare. Although, I can’t say I’m the biggest Shakespeare fan - is that illegal? I studied English Literature at the University of Exeter which I adored and it opened my eyes up to so many great books I’d never have normally touched (including Shakespeare - can’t keep the boy away). Only been on Goodreads for a year, so can’t wait to see what you’re all reading!

message 10: by Dennis (last edited Mar 17, 2021 09:48AM) (new)

Dennis Holland | 9 comments Hiya, boys! I’m Dennis, 42, and currently live in Tampa, Florida. For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved books and to read. I mostly stick to literary fiction and memoir—I like characters and people—but I’m game to try most anything if it sounds interesting. I dig all the stars but I’d prefer to read how a book makes you feel so keep those thoughts coming. When I’m not reading, I like to ride my bicycle, enjoy cooking, love to sunbathe, dance to Madonna in my underwear and spend time with my senior dog, Bruce.
Peace, love and warm regards~

message 11: by Justin (new)

Justin Tate | 1 comments Hi all, I’m Justin. My ASL is 31, male, Arizona. I started using Goodreads seriously about 4 years ago. Now it’s just become automatic that I review everything I read and post it here, usually within a few hours of finishing a book. I gravitate toward horror and gothic literature, but recently discovered gay pulp written in the 1960s and ā€˜70s and absolutely love it. The fearless attitude in their writing back then just can’t be found anymore.

I’m an aspiring creative writer and hope to successfully bridge my love for all this together into a project. I finished a screenplay draft recently called Trailer Park Anaconda that tries to do that. Taking a break from it at the moment but plan to revise soon and maybe submit to agents. It’s probably unmarketable but I had fun lol.

Always looking for more Goodreads reviewers to be friends with. I waste too much time reading all the reviews which pop up on my feed, and buying all the books which sound good. This site can be dangerous!

—Justin

message 12: by Nicolas (last edited Mar 17, 2021 12:54PM) (new)

Nicolas Chinardet (zefrog) | 7 comments Bonjour! I'm a 46 year old French guy. I've lived in London for almost 21 years and I've been the moderator of a gay reading group for 20 of those.

Books have been my friends and companions since I was a kid. It's been my joy and my curse. I'm not resentful though: I collect modern first editions these days.

I read almost exclusively fiction, preferably literary, but I've been known to dabble in gay mysteries and M/M romances too. I read mostly in English but also in French, and much more rarely in Spanish (recommendations for easy-to-read (gay) books in that language are welcome).

I've written a couple of short stories, which are available from my profile, if some day you are really bored or are having problems sleeping.

In my civilian life I'm the deputy editor of a trade magazine, and an occasional club photographer.

Louis V. (louisv) | 13 comments Hi there! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼
I’m Louis, 24 and now I live in Milan, Italy. I lived in the USA while I was attending college. I have been on Goodreads since 2016 but only recently I started using it seriously. I love books because I can immerse myself in different worlds and being surrounded by different people. I like contemporary fiction, classics, and thrillers.

I love movies, going out with my friends, listen to music and fashion. I hope to make new friends and maybe find some cool guys.

Looking forward to sharing opinions and recommendations about books!

message 15: by Rhockman (new)

Rhockman | 3 comments Hellow gente!

I'm 34 and from Argentina.
I'm a anthropology student so I love reading about social sciences, pholosphy and history. Regarding literature I'm always searching for new and obscure books, and regarding gay literature, I'm more into queer classics than modern m/m romance unless it's explicitly porn (yeah).

message 16: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Bassano | 8 comments Ciao Guys! I’m Andrea, 26 yo from Italy!
I work as marketing manager in publishing industry, love traveling when we can, photography and data analysis.

message 17: by Conor (last edited Mar 17, 2021 11:19AM) (new)

Conor Ahern | 1 comments Hello!

I'm Conor, 34 he/him living in Washington, DC. I joined this site because I'm not the most attentive reader and wanted to track what I read. I have a preference for character-driven stories with quirky characters, like the ones told by Dickens, Strout, Chabon, Steinbeck, and others.

Looking forward to the suggestions and friendships that result from this group.

message 18: by Kristian (last edited Mar 17, 2021 02:14PM) (new)

I'm Kristian. I grew up in Macedonia and am currently in Boston for grad school; studying music composition. I enjoy books that connect my mind and heart, books like "A Little Life," "Crime and Punishment," "The Goldfinch," "Blood Meridian," and countless others.

Nice to meet you all :)

MartinMartin (martinandcatsreadbooks) | 2 comments G'day everyone!

I'm Martin, I live in Slovakia and during the day I mostly do boring bureaucratic work in the banking security sector, but I would like to go to college this year. I like traveling, writing shitty poems and spending evenings with prosecco in one hand and book in the other. My favorite book is The Bell Jar. And of course, as everybody here, I always wanted to join gay book club, so here I go. Write me anytime.

Nice to meet you! <3

message 20: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliadenwala) | 1 comments Hey everyone!

I'm Ali, 24, from Bahrain. I'm a law student in London and an aspiring environmental/renewable energy lawyer. As you can probably guess, I love reading, as well as organizing all of my reading on Goodreads. These days I mostly read non-fiction, but I'm looking to get lost in a good story again. Some of my LGBTQ+ books are the Weetzie Bat series by Francesca Lia Block, 'A Single Man' by Christopher Isherwood, and Another Country by James Baldwin. I also love language learning (am learning Hindi atm), singing, dancing, and cooking.

I'm always up for chatting and making new friends to feel free to connect anytime. :)

message 21: by Josh (new)

Josh King | 7 comments Mod
Hi!

I'm Josh, 31, he/him living in NYC but raised in North Carolina. I created this group to meet other queer book nerds and am super pumped to see that we have more than 80 members in under 12 hours.

Really into poetry, short stories, essays, and nonfiction. Lately I can't stop reading books about revolutionary politics and social movements. Unashamed to admit that my ultimate goal is to find a handsome, bookish dude to read in bed with - but in the meantime, friends are great, too! :)

Despite the group name, all are welcome. Diversity is cool, and kindness is sexy. Invite your friends!

message 22: by Levi (last edited Mar 17, 2021 01:17PM) (new)

Levi Huxton (levihuxton) | 3 comments G'day!

I'm 43, born and raised in France but I've lived in Asia and North America too. For the last 15 years or so, my home has been Sydney, Australia.

Ten novels that informed my sense of (queer) self:
- The Rules of Attraction - Brett Easton Ellis
- Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Klay - Michael Chabon
- The Secret History - Donna Tartt
- A Single Man - Christopher Isherwood
- Dans Ma Chambre - Guillaume Dustan
- Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides
- The City & The Pillar - Gore Vidal
- By Nightfall - Michael Cunningham
- A Little Life - Hanya Yanagihara
- Barracuda - Christos Tsiolkas

(Not a very diverse bunch of authors though I read more widely these days). Film has played a stronger role in shaping my identity if I'm honest.

Thanks for creating this group. Looking forward to meeting new people and discovering new books!

message 23: by Darius (new)

Darius Irani (dirani2) | 2 comments Hey everyone! I’m Darius (he/him), 23, and a software engineer by profession. I’m moving to Seattle in June, and have spent the last five years going to school in Baltimore. Meeting and engaging with other queer readers through Goodreads over the past year has been super fun—and something I was missing in my offline life. I enjoy queer fiction, memoir, literary fiction, and non-fiction (particularly queer history). I prefer character-driven novels, and have a tendency to read pretty emotional/sad books. Recently, I’ve also been getting into poetry with Danez Smith’s Don’t Call Us Dead.

James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room introduced me to the genre of queer fiction, and since then, some books I’ve loved are Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous and Carter Sickles’ The Prettiest Star.

message 24: by Pavel (new)

Pavel Hobbit (pavelhobbit) | 7 comments Hi, I'm Pavel from Mexico, I'm an accountant, my favorite genre is Historic novels but I'm always looking for new stories.

message 26: by Alberto (new)

Alberto (4lberj) | 8 comments Hi! I'm Alberto, 27, from Spain. I studied Spanish Language and Literature but at the moment I'm working as a retail assistant at a clothing store in Madrid.

I've been an avid reader since I can remember, although these past few years I've been in a huge reader's block, which I've finally overcome this 2021. I'm also into movies, art, theatre, travelling...

It's such a pleasure to be a part of this group!

message 27: by Guy (new)

Guy Venturi (guyventuri) | 5 comments Guy Venturi, 72, Kansas City area of the USA. I like almost all genres and most friends. I am retired and staying home and safe. I read a lot, write too much, eat too much, try to sleep too much, and chat too much.

I read to learn and help others. I am currently trying to learn more about gay influences to help me understand the homeless veterans and young people who are mostly gay as I try to help. I also try to help students find internships and jobs in these tough times.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 33 comments description

Hey! I'm Apoorv (he/him), 31, originally from India, live in The States (Boston, Massachusetts) and a Biomedical Engineer by vocation. I am a (shameless) GoodReads addict and have been here since I was a wee kid. And I haven't been able to shake off my love for this place ever since.

I tend to read almost everything (except maybe religious literature) and try to juggle as many genres as can, because there is such a treasure trove of precious literature across the board.

Quick LGBTQ+ recommendations with MCs and authors who identify into all shades of the spectrum:

This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake The Deviant's War The Homosexual vs. the United States of America by Eric Cervini Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett Bear, Otter, and the Kid (Bear, Otter, and the Kid, #1) by T.J. Klune They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera Like a Love Story by Abdi Nazemian Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin Birthday by Meredith Russo The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta I Wish You All the Best (I Wish You All the Best, #1) by Mason Deaver Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart Violence Begets... by P.T. Denys

Couldn't have been a more wonderful idea to be part of on a birthday. Thank you, Josh, for creating what could possibly be a wonderful conversational place for a lot of people who identify outside the perceived norm.

message 29: by Mark (new)

Mark | 2 comments Hey everyone šŸ˜€

I’m Mark, 36, and live in Toronto, Canada. I’ve been on Goodreads for a number of years, but only started using it more in depth in 2019. It satisfies my obsession for creating lists, and is such an awesome tool for discovering new books. As for what I like to read, I gravitate towards queer fiction, thrillers and memoirs but I like a bit of everything.

When I’m not reading, you’ll find me at the theatre, dancing at concerts or travelling the world. Given that none of these things are possible at the moment, all I’m doing is reading haha!

That being said, I’m happily partnered but always enjoy meeting new and interesting people!

Feel free to add me as a friend on Goodreads or on IG (@MarkChuraman).

It's really nice being part of this group and learning more from like-minded people so feel free to get in touch.

message 34: by Ceyrone (new)

Ceyrone | 13 comments Hi, I’m Ceyrone, born and raised in Sydney Australia, I’m half Lebanese half Colombian. I am 33 years old and I am a high school English teacher. Since being on Goodreads, my to read list has grown longer.

I am an avid reader, and tend to read widely. Recently, I’ve been reading books written by people of colour, in particular stories written by authors from the Arab world. The publishing industry tends to be white centric and I’m looking for characters that I can see myself in.

Besides reading, my other love is being out in nature and relaxing on a nude beach. Nude beaches have done wonders for my body dysmorphia, my confidence and my sense of self worth.

message 35: by Gustaf (new)

Gustaf | 13 comments Hi all!
I'm Gustaf, born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. I just turned 26. I'm a creative writing student and works part time at a bookstore.
I've been reading almost exclusively M/M romances lately. But I read a little of everything.

When I'm not reading I spend a lot of time with my husband and dog. I love exploring new places and can't wait for people being able to travel again. I'm also a huge fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.

I am Michael. I am a Canadian living in London (for the past ~4 years). I'm married and father of a 20 year old cat :)

Reading is a passion of mine. I love exploring new authors, different subject matters and stories from around the world (both fiction & non-fiction). I tend to switch between books that are heavy/light, familiar/new and easy/challenging.

This year I endeavour to read Les MisƩrables.

Looking forward to being inspired by everyone’s suggested reads.

Thanks @JoshKing for starting this group!

message 39: by Reuben (new)

Reuben (theultimatepageturner) | 21 comments Hi everyone,
I'm Reuben, 28, from Northern Ireland. Always happy to make friends with people with similar bookish interests :) Been on here since 2016 and find it the best place to discover my next read. I love fiction, especially classic and literary fiction, and also enjoy non-fic on the topics of history, philosophy, psychology and religion.
My ultimate career goal is to be an author, and am currently working on my third full length project (with two main queer characters, of course!) My day job is a receptionist in a high school.
I have a pet dog called Patch who never leaves my side. She's the sweetest. I guess the one good thing about lockdown is that there's more time to read :) Say hi if you have similar taste in books!

I will literally read anything; I’m not picky. All of my favorites though are emotionally exhausting. Thanks Tartt and Yanagihara. In my free time i like to write and do anything naturey, whether that be hiking or gardening or sitting down by the river.

message 43: by Chris (new)

Chris Berry (christopherberry) | 2 comments I was planning to creep around in the background of this group, but figure in for a penny in for a pound. I'm Chris, heterosexually (and maybe even homosexually based on my dating life) challenged, 29 for the 4th year in a row, and I live just outside of Boston, MA. I work in learning and development, and manage projects related to that. I loved reading as a kid and sporadically throughout the years, but sort of lost interest while I was in school and I was forced to read things I didn't care for. I got back into it on a whim (I'm an artist and have a lot of those) in 2015 by doing the annual challenge on here and eventually rediscovered my love of books. Reading is now just a part of my daily life. On top of that, I also write and spend a lot of my time working on the second draft of what I hope to be the first of many novels. I primarily read Fantasy, Sci-Fi, YA, and Memoirs, or any combinations of those, and obviously love LGBTQ+ themes in whatever I read. Feel free to add me or recommend something that you think I might like based on my books.

tomƔs. (tmsmnrq) | 1 comments Hi everyone!

My name is TomĆ”s, and I’m a 21-year-old Venezuelan currently in his second year of med school (since like July 2019, thanks to the pandemic). I’ve always liked to read, and while I hadn’t had that much free time since starting university, last year I started reading a lot again and fell in love with it all over again.

My favourite book of all time might be Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which I read for the first time back when I was 15 or something, and as of today have read like 9 times, so it’s safe to say I’m pretty excited for its sequel coming out later this year.

Besides reading, I like watching films and studying languages (besides Spanish and English, I’m also fluent in French).

Feel free to add me as a friend here!

message 47: by Dana (new)

Dana Sweeney (dtpsweeney) | 1 comments Hey y’all — I’m so excited about this group, and I love reading these intros! My name is Dana (he/him), I’m 26 years old, and I work as a community organizer in Montgomery, Alabama, USA. I grew up in a small town in rural Georgia, and reading was my portal to the big wide world beyond the county line. Reading is still that for me: a way to travel, to meet new people, and to remain curious.

Most of what I read is contemporary (publication 1990-present) across poetry, history, literary fiction, and politics. I read lots of things simultaneously and sometimes take ages to finish a book (right now I have 20+ books in the ā€œCurrently Readingā€ tab), which is a bit chaotic, but reflects proportionately broad interests! I’ve got a real soft spot for anything that is rooted in the Deep South (USA), LGBTQ experiences, or movements on the political left.

Anyways, I’m really glad to meet & read with y’all. Don’t be shy!

Frank Chillura (OhYouRead) (frankohyouread) | 1 comments Hey Y’all! I’m Frank! I’m a 38yo man living in Wesley Chapel, FL. I’ve been married to my husband for 4 years, but we’ve been together for 17 years. I’ve worked in a bookstore going on 11 years now and I LOVE it! Pre-Covid I ran 3 book clubs, but now, I am down to only 1. I also run a Bookstagram with my best friend, which has been so much fun, but I find way too many books to read! šŸ˜‚

I do read a big variety of genres, but I always find my way back to YA. My fave books will always have some form of representation for a marginalized group, but I will read just about anything.

message 49: by Johann (new)

Johann Jacob | 6 comments Hi! My name’s Johann. South African by birth and currently living in Lexington, KY, a sleepy, charming city with lots of horses and bourbon (and just enough coffee shops). My favorite activity is reading/writing/working in coffee shops while drinking good coffee, so this past year’s been HARD. I’m a music professor and also very interested in politics, power and futurism through non European lenses. My favorite fiction is difficult to prescribe or predict, but it tends to be the longer books with characters you remember long after - LotR, A Little Life, IQ84, Goldfinch and the Elena Ferrante and Karl Ove Knausgaard series. Non-fiction interest spans education, pedagogy, art, photography and music. I find it a little difficult to find contemporary lgbtq+ fiction that speaks to me, but I’ll almost anything to find those gems and there is something to be gained from almost any book so the process is quite fun. Looking forward to learning from this community and feel free to add/follow (what’s the Goodreads lingo?) and I’ll do the same. Cheers! šŸ˜…šŸ™šŸ“š

I kayak and pretend to be sporty, but mostly I just daydream and stare out the window with my cat, Marguerite Purrete. Hit me up to talk about theology, food, corporeality, and/or poetry.
