Popcorns?"
+1
I read the first chapter and it was all over the place. thought of dream in title and first chapter was dreamlike but quite complex at times.
"these days are when computers humanize and humans computerize."
quite a line that was.
(view spoiler)
if this goes like CA and Ghostwritten with every new character per chapter I will definitely be dreaming all the while I am reading this...

the conversation in the theatre? Was it a dream which I took for reality?

yes it was a dream. I am sure about it. Let me double check.
Right from the moment he started squashing those blackheads to the time when somebody started knocking and turning the toilet door handle.

Its really confusing what is dream and what is not.... and its just the first chapter!
so buckle up your seatbelts :D

I haven't got my hands on the book yet, will really find some time and get started sooooon
midway into chapter 2 - Lost Property... and my head has started spinning :(
Reading about Eiji izz not eazzy!!!

On top of dream/not a dream, I don't think the timeline is linear!
Anju is his sister right? So it starts with Eiji hacking the head off of that statue, thunderGod or something... but then the references of thunderGod keep coming on and off in the middle.
Is it a retrospect? or is he dreaming again!!!

Lost track for a couple of days... going slow now still on the 2nd Chapter - Lost Property.
Able to get a hang of the overall plot now.
How far are you Manu?
Have you started Mak?

I am onboard!
4% in the book where Eiji is just about to leave panOpticon after stealing his father's file.
I find the plot very interesting so far.
Also, the technological prowess shown is amazing.
Funny story, in the initial few pages where gender wasn't disclosed I thought Eiji is a she and Kato was a He ;)

Anju is the twin. I was surprised what was I doing there minus the m.
Am also halfway through second chapter and most likely will wrap it up tomorrow.
As of now I am considering reference to Thunder God as dream line.

Didn't understand this :confused smiley:
Yeah Thunder God could be a dream line.... since everything else anyways is another dream line :P

I am done with 2nd Chapter... slightly confused. Continuing with Chapter 3 (Video Games) without worrying about what I (mis)understood in 2! knowing you guys are there to enlighten me :) :) :)
End of chapter 2

So far, every chapter has given that "DNF" kind of a feel!
Needs patience. It is turning out difficult than what I anticipated :(

For a change there wasn't even a single dream in this chapter whereas the first chapter was entirely a dream episode.
Also, the first chapter was about finding his father but the second entirely was about his mother who tries to reach out to him.
It was fluctuating between past and present. I wouldn't be surprised if Anju comes back again because Eiji believes she's died and hacks off the thundergodd's head but she might not be dead too
still in chapter 3! not understanding the writing easily. not sure what's happening.
they are paying a racing video game or something?
they are paying a racing video game or something?

This is batshit crazy style of writing. I did not understand where this chapter was headed. There was a game in the middle and then the Whorehouse and his quest to find his dad's name and then the game again in the end. Very very Gibberish. Felt like DNFing right away
DNF is the word!!! not getting enough energy to pursue Chapter3. only hanging on because its Mitchell!

I have restarted Chapter 3 - Video games.
Midway through it and it makes a little sense now.... since I have some context on the weirdness.

Daimon: "What qualities should I look for in a wife?"
Miriam considers: "In your case, Mr Daimon, blindness."

Another excerpt from the thoughts of Eiji... feels to me like a soul brother of Neil from Ghostwritten:
The waitress with the most perfect neck isn’t working this morning – if she saw me in this condition, I would give a howl, age nine centuries and desiccate into a mound of dandruff and fingernails.

Keep an eye on `the guy with Leather jacket` in Chapter 4.
A fellow from Ghostwritten revisits us. His name is revealed towards end of the chapter (view spoiler)
Starting Chapter 5 now

There's too much ramble and unnecessary blabber that can be kindly skipped I believe. This book isn't meant to be read as carefully as we did with Ghostwritten. It's meant to be read and forgotten since there are barely any connectors to the previous chapters
oooh! nice progress Mak! I'm still stuck on Chapter 3... on that game called Virtua Sapiens (or something similar) - enjoying it so far.
Can't understand why I get so contrasting views of the same chapter. Last time it was a DNF kinda thingy. Loving it this time around.
Will keep eyes and ears open for that leather jacket guy. Curious.

Ha ha ha. I secretly wish you are mistaken here. Because I had similar feeling while reading Cloud Atlas - no connection whatsoever with previous chapter. And then suddenly in a flash :D :D :D

ooof. chapter 4 is getting so difficult. not liking this Mafia Morino Nagasaki Yakuza Father whatever!!!

Yeah!! He's a badass!!
Just see what he does with Miyake

Remember that thing about Ghostwritten Tokyo chapter, where a man fell dead in front of a Mac Donald's? And then never referenced again?
I think its the same guy who was pushed by the LeatherJacket guy:
‘But what about the pachinko manager?’
‘Who knows? Fell through a window while changing a light bulb.’
Let me pull up that para from Ghostwritten thread.

Set in Japan, the 2001 novel narrates 19-year-old Eiji Miyake's search for his father, whom he has never met. Told in the first person by Eiji, it is a coming of age and perception story that breaks convention by juxtaposing Eiji Miyake's actual journey toward identity and understanding with his imaginative journey. The novel employs eclectic narrations in each chapter.
