I think these awards are sometimes given in April, sometimes in May, and sometimes who knows when, though it is rather difficult to determine, since the official BTBA site is kind of a navigation nightmare.
However, I had already picked out the book I wanted to read from the list, since it's an adult book by an author whose children's books I've been reading my whole life, and I've never read an adult title by her. And I was able to confirm by searching the official BTBA site that the awards were conferred in April that year.
Anyway ... The book I'll be reading in April is The True Deceiver by Tove Jansson (translated from the Swedish by Thomas Teal). It received the Best Translated Book Award for Fiction in 2011. And I think it sounds quite intriguing!

CHALLENGE COMPLETED
I loved this. It's been lingering on mt TBR for years and I'm so glad this challenge finally pushed it to the top.
Also, as far as I can tell the Australian Book Industry Awards (https://abiawards.com.au) are also presented in April, and the Philip K Dick Awards (https://www.philipkdickaward.org/) are presented at Easter, so usually in April.

Thanks for the info; these are good awards to know about!

The True Deceiver
by Tove Jansson
Best Translated Book Award for Fiction, 2011
What an unusual little story.
I have been a fan of Tove Jansson's Moomin books for children my whole life, but this is my first time reading any of her work for adults. I definitely plan to read more after this.
The True Deceiver kind of reminded me of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. Not storywise, but with the chilly atmosphere (both meteorologically & psychologically), and the way things were implied without necessarily being explicitly said.
I'll be thinking this one over for a while.

I started mid-April. It looks like I’m not finish it til early May. Hopefully I complete it in a couple of days. So far, so good from the handful of pages I read!
