Your task this month is to read at least 1 book that WON a book award in APRIL - any year.

Awards that have been announced in April include:
* The Edgar Awards
* The Stoker Awards
* Pulitzer Prize (not every year - sometimes it's presented in May)

--- Comment below with ---
(1) the name book you're reading for the challenge,
(2) the name and year of the award it won
(3) CHALLENGE COMPLETE if you've finished reading the book.

Sarah I am reading a book from another list, the Best Translated Book Awards.

I think these awards are sometimes given in April, sometimes in May, and sometimes who knows when, though it is rather difficult to determine, since the official BTBA site is kind of a navigation nightmare.

However, I had already picked out the book I wanted to read from the list, since it's an adult book by an author whose children's books I've been reading my whole life, and I've never read an adult title by her. And I was able to confirm by searching the official BTBA site that the awards were conferred in April that year.

Anyway ... The book I'll be reading in April is The True Deceiver by Tove Jansson (translated from the Swedish by Thomas Teal). It received the Best Translated Book Award for Fiction in 2011. And I think it sounds quite intriguing!

Maya | 10 comments I'm planning on reading Mr. Mercedes, which won the Edgar Award for best novel in 2015

CHALLENGE COMPLETED

I loved this. It's been lingering on mt TBR for years and I'm so glad this challenge finally pushed it to the top.

Also, as far as I can tell the Australian Book Industry Awards (https://abiawards.com.au) are also presented in April, and the Philip K Dick Awards (https://www.philipkdickaward.org/) are presented at Easter, so usually in April.

Sarah CHALLENGE COMPLETE
The True Deceiver
by Tove Jansson
Best Translated Book Award for Fiction, 2011

What an unusual little story.

I have been a fan of Tove Jansson's Moomin books for children my whole life, but this is my first time reading any of her work for adults. I definitely plan to read more after this.

The True Deceiver kind of reminded me of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. Not storywise, but with the chilly atmosphere (both meteorologically & psychologically), and the way things were implied without necessarily being explicitly said.

I'll be thinking this one over for a while.

Natacia (naviles11) | 11 comments I chose The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths. It won the 2020 Edgar Award for Best Novel.

I started mid-April. It looks like I’m not finish it til early May. Hopefully I complete it in a couple of days. So far, so good from the handful of pages I read!
