Join Luna, Irene and I as we read Room by Emma Donoghue starting March 10th 2015. :)

I'm so happy I'll get to read this one with somebody else, it's been on my to-read pile for long time and I'm really looking forward to this one ^_^

I only just bought the book a few weeks ago but I knew i had to have it.

I've read a lot of great reviews about it, and tbh I fell in love with the cover the first time I saw it

I have the blue cover. The bookstore didn't have the white one. I was lucky to find it. It was hidden in between a few others

It's been on my shelf for about a year, but one of my friends didn't like it, so I've been weary about picking it up :)

My sister's friends read it in 10th grade. She said they wouldn't stop talking about it. I hope I like this book. The description was very interesting.

Just started, I have a question, is Dora the Explore international? You will understand my question when you start reading, it is not a spoiler :-)15% done

(view spoiler)[Jack and his mother have been kidnapped, I believe. They are living in a room, Jack is a very observant child who is learning a lot from the television.and someways he is very young for his age and others he is very old for his age, I can't imagine the bond between mother and child if they spend all their time together. I believe this will be a very interesting book! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Jack and his mom are planning there a scape. It is so weird what he believes is true and what he believes is not true. It's funny how much is talk to us, through our environment. I am hoping they escape, however I don't know if Jack will Everby normal.for lack of a better word! (hide spoiler)]

This is a very compelling and interesting book, at 58%
(view spoiler)[Jack and his mom are now on the outside. Jack doesn't seem to really understand. It was very edge of your seat during the escape, wondering what is to come. (hide spoiler)]

It comes on everyday here. My cousin watches it.

I wasn't sure if Dora was just an American thing or what. At 74%
< spoiler> you would think once Jack got out of the room he would be so excited to play outside and be with a bunch of people and all that. I think this is probably more likely what would happen, you know what you know. I'm not quite sure why his mom is now confiding all kinds of things in him, and I don't know if that's the right thing to do.

I'm one page through but I thought I'd comment on the writing style. I think it's pretty genius for the book to be from a 5 year old's POV. I had almost forgotten that until I started reading.

I know and she keeps it up throughout the book, I am almost done. I hope you enjoy it!

Well clearly it did. So, I finished the book it was very good, it would be interesting to do a follow-up to see how Jack live the rest of his life. I hope you enjoy it.

I took a break with this book for a while and now I'm buzzing through it. On the things I've read...

I'm really loving this book and I'm sure one day I'll re-read it.

(view spoiler)[I see now that Nick has never really seen Jack and that he kidnapped the mom when she was 19. She's trying to give Jack a life, a better life but she's restricted and it's heart wrenching. It was pretty risky sending Jack out, he could have gotten seriously injured, never seen his mom again, but it was for the best I guess. (hide spoiler)]

I loved it. There were a few parts that made me backtrack a bit but the author really knows how to capture an audience. I'm glad things worked out mostly in the end.

Great book. 4/5 stars.

Starting this! Can't wait to read it!

Part 1, Presents: (view spoiler)[ The POV is brilliant. It is so great to see the world from Jack's mind. I find his bond with his mother will be very beautiful. I love their love for one another. To be suck in a room for that long, must be very frightening because you do not know what has happened in the world. I love the way she protects Jack from Old Nick. I am enjoying this book right now. (hide spoiler)]

Part 2, Unlying: (view spoiler)[ I love this book. I think it is great that Ma is telling her the truth, but how can he understand the truth. I got scared when Jack came out of the Wardrobe and saw Old Nick and he hit his head. I felt bad for Ma because she is the one who has suffered all of the abuse. (hide spoiler)]

Part 3, Dying: (view spoiler)[ I am intrigued with the way Jack's mind see as true and false. Jack and his Ma are making their grand escape plan. I can't believe that actually worked. I love the ending of this chapter when Ma runs up to the police car and embraces Jack. It was such a beautiful moment. I did love the quote: "I'm not in room.. Am I still me?" This is a powerful quote. (hide spoiler)]

Part 4, After: (view spoiler)[ OMG!! Now I understand what Jack meant by "having some." Ma has being nursing him this whole entire time. This is excellent storytelling by Emma Donoghue from Jack's perspective. I think it makes it more personal coming from him than his Ma because I get to see his emotions at the events, and Jack is adorable and smart for a five-year-old. (hide spoiler)]

Ending Thoughts (Part 5, Living): (view spoiler)[ OMG!!! I hope Ma did not kill herself. I am starting to tear up, especially when Jack meets his Ma again. I thought it was sweet that he wanted to say goodbye to his old life, and where he grew up. It was always very sad when Ma said bye to the room. Excellent read! (hide spoiler)]

This is my first time to read a book about someone being captured so it is a new experience for me. I just can't imagine how to be so isolated from the world with a 5 years kid you gave birth to alone. It is so horrible she must be so strong woman *the mother* to get through all this and still love Jack and care for him. I just wish if the book have also the mother POV because I don't like that a whole book have to be told through a 5 years kid. Some parts really don't make sense. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Didn't know how this book would end but they went back to the room to say goodbye. Ma is a really strong woman for going back with Jack to give him closure.
Overall I found the author captured a kid's voice really well. There were times I found him annoyingly upbeat and whiny and I think that was done excellently because kids aren't cute and understanding all the time. (hide spoiler)]
