I know she was 104 and retired from writing (she threw away her typewriter) but gosh she will be missed. While I LOVED reading about pioneers and English children most of all, I enjoyed the Ramona series so much. Beverly Cleary did so much for children's literature and her legacy will love on. Portland Oregon's Grant Park has a Beverly Clearly sculpture garden

I think that I am going to do a Beverly Cleary retrospective topic in the fiction club in June and July.

Great idea! Her books still hold up. I've read some as an adult and remembered them so vividly.

There's a good article in Time and time.com. It rehashes previous interviews but if one hasn't read those before, it's worth a read.

I still love her work, too. Even those teen romances that I've only read as an adult are still interesting.

QNPoohBear | 9393 comments I don't think I ever read the teen romances but I read most of the kids' books. For book character day at school in third grade I was Ralph S. Mouse. (I was most likely Laura Ingalls in second and Anne of Green Gables in 4th and then American Girl Kirsten Kirsten Saves the Day: A Summer Story in 5th. I don't think they did it when we moved to the new school for 6th. I don't remember.)

Wow, 104! She will be missed. Gundula, glad that you will be featuring her books this summer.

I am looking forward to finally reading the entire Ramona series.

TheAccidental Reader | 5 comments Having loved her books way back when I was a kid in the sixties, I had NO idea she was still with us in 2021. 104 years old! That is really something!
