Notes/Feedback:
An easy (and quick) to read book on Marquet's true story how he became the captain of one of the worst rated submarines (Santa Fe) and how he turned the morale and the standard Navy leadership style to something more effective. The realization came to him when he gave an order to his team to take the sub to a certain speed. The orders were passed verbally all the way down until finally the man controlling the speed didn't execute the order because the sub did not have that speed option. When Marquet asked his chief if he knew that, he was surprised to find out that he did. Yet he passed the orders down anyways, simply because he was told to do so by his captain. From that moment Marquet describes how he changed the standard Navy leadership formula from leader-follower to leader-leader. He spent his time empowering individuals at all levels of the sub to do what is best for their respective area of duty without having to ask his opinion or approval on the matter. As a result of all of his actions the sub improved in many areas and the success continued long after his departure as the captain.

Recommendation:
The book is worth a read for anyone relatively new to leadership or possibly anyone struggling to influence change within their org or anyone looking to change their command and control style of management. Not worth a read if you have already read plenty of other leadership books.
