I don't know too many non-tragic book dogs! I know Downton Abbey is NOT a book, but PBS will always have a literary air, so Isis forever!

Love that Dog by Creech is a good one (has it's ups and downs is happy & sad). How Fletcher Was Hatched by Devlin was a childhood favorite. I tend not to remember dogs in books. Or animals in general unless it's a book about an animal.
