Saz | 6 comments I started reading a book from my junior school library about 1991/2. The first couple of pages describe a boy in the middle of nowhere seeing a mushroom cloud and sheltering (think it was in a storm drain). He waits until the fallout rain has finished then goes out. He starts finding bodies. To be honest it scared me so much I didn't read much more. It could have even been a prologue.
I have always wondered what it was and if it was meant to be childrens fiction.
I had a look through the Apocalyptic List and nothing stood out.
Any help appreciated.

Saz | 6 comments They're two I hadn't seen on the list but I don't think it had an obvious title e.g. Bomb, War e.t.c. I remember being surprised by the story.

A shot in the dark - Brother in the Land by Robert Swindells?

Saz | 6 comments Yes it is Brother in the Land Thanks. I've just found an extract of the first chapter online. It had the first edition cover. Which isn't pictured here but I found it elsewhere.
I was only about 9 so think I was a little bit young for it but might read it now if I can find a copy

Glad we could help. :)

Hope you find a copy. This year I think I'll re-read a few books I discovered as a kid. It'll be interesting to see what my adult self thinks of them.
