Energetic tale set in late 1960s Brooklyn amidst crime, racial tensions, general decay, desperation and hopelessness. Unique array of lost and trapped characters at odds with Manhattan affluence. This story snuck up on me. It starts slow but glad I pushed ahead. Once it takes off and expands to the full cast, it's hard to put down. 4.5 stars rounded down.
