I enjoy reading classic books and I had never read a Hemingway until this year. The Old Man and the Sea is a very short book but in its own right is done quite well. The story is mostly a narration of an old man who reflects on his life at sea and focuses a lot on his loneliness as a fisherman out on the sea alone. Despite the book's small size, it is by no means a fast-paced novel. The story is simple on the surface but deep down has a much deeper meaning. The old man's courage symbolizes a driving force to meet your goals and dreams. The book also focuses a lot on meeting fate. The ending of the novel is symbolic to the old man meeting his fate and presumably dying. This book is truly a timeless classic. I cannot say it was the most thought-provoking book I have ever read but it was worth the time to read the short novel. I would recommend this book only to people interested in reading classic literature. This book is very dated but its age gives it a unique feel in today's modern literature.
