(view spoiler)[ I loved this!! That ending just left me amazed, and i ended up loving our main character so much. Sure, she wasnt "good" or "kind", but she was an entire powerhouse. That scene of her murdering her family had me shocked, but at the same time, i loved it so much.

Also, I was totally freaking out when i thought Shimin was dead. He grew on me, and even though i never bought the romance between him, Yizhi, and her, i really loved him. Im just happy that hes half alive!

Also, that revelation regarding the gods??? Are they just people who sent an experimental colony down to this planet?? Is that why they intervene when necessary??? I cant wait to see how Zetian deals with them, as i already know shes not just going to accept their threats (hide spoiler)]

60% (view spoiler)[ Ugh that ridiculous ness that about Li and Zetian having to have sex to make their relationship better is ANNOYING. No! They need to trust each other. Also I am really hoping that a love triangle could develop here between Zetian, Li and Yizhi. THe triangle is the strongest shape after all. ;) (hide spoiler)]

First quarter - (view spoiler)[This immediately felt like a five-star read! I loved the introduction of the Chrysalis and the Qi it was powered with. Yang Guang revealed himself as the second-best pilot in the kingdom, after a murderer he was determined to take down, and had a total disregard for the death of the girls who flew with him.

Zetian's Big Sister was killed by Yang Guang and she was now determined to avenge her by killing him too. It was sad to see how little regard her family held for female life. It seemed like so much suffering had hardened them into being able to not view them as humans. They were merely another mouth to feed until they could be sold off in marriage or to the war effort.

I haven't really got a good understanding of the Hunduns yet. It has been revealed that they ruined human rule, two-thousand years ago, and only the Chrysalis stop them from doing so again. Is there something else really going on there? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I loved the way the world was introduced! It felt real and I wanted to rage at all the unfairness. I loved how quickly the action came. Like Zetian explains her plan and almost immediately enacts it after getting to the army. As for the Hunduns I'm still kinda confused as to what they are, but there's definitely more answers to come. Second quarter - (view spoiler)[I just knew Li Shimmin wasn't going to be the villain the rest of the kingdom thought him but didn't expect an introduction to his character to appear so soon. It seems he shares the same ideals as Zetain so hopefully they can act on them together.

I also didn't anticipate Yizhi to appear in the book again either. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[These battle scenes would make for such epic film shots.

Armed guards joined them in the Vermillion Bird to force them to fight but Zetain ended up fighting in her own way. I loved how they joined Qi with Yizhi and became some sort of unbeatable trio of energy. Yizhi is becoming a favourite character and I really hope it isn't an act for his onw agenda. His speech about Zetain's closeness with another not eradicating their closeness was so sweet and understanding. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[Okay, new favourite book! I see you! This was spectacular. It was so fast-paced and unique. The press shots and the fame Zetain received reminded me of the later Hunger Games books, where they try to make Katniss a media darling rather than an enemy of the Capitol. It didn't work there and it doesn't work here.

The war scenes were so brutal and I loved them. That end scene has me DYING for more! (hide spoiler)]
