Kathryn | 3569 comments We're catching up for the first time in person since our last pre-COVID catch-up in FEBRUARY last year!!! We're meeting in South Bank at 11am this Saturday, May 8th. If anyone is in Brisbane and wants to come, just shoot me a quick message and I'll send you details.

Of course, as with all the best-laid plans at the moment, it is subject to change at a moment's notice, depending on any last minute COVID restrictions!

Kathryn | 3569 comments I hope it's better weather than today! But it will be lovely to see everyone again in person, whatever the weather!!

message 5: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Am I right in saying we will bring a wrapped up book like we usually do?

I have a lot of other books that I've been given by people at our events that I can give back. I thought I'd list them here, as I don't want to bring all of them if I don't have to. So if you would like me to bring one of these, please let me know.

They are as follows:

Disruption by Jessica Shirvington. I'm pretty sure last time someone said they wanted this one, and I'm happy to bring it if that person is attending.

Tales of Magic and Destiny (short story anthology)

Reunion - Book 1: Chronicle of the 12th Realm by Greg Mutton

Doctor Who: Twelve Doctors of Christmas

Promise at Dawn by Romain Gary

Sophie: Dog Overboard I know someone wanted this one next. I can't remember who so let me know.

Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marillier

Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders

Little Gods by Jenny Ackland

Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer

London Rules by Mick Herron

The Missing Pieces of Us by Fleur McDonald

The Sisters' Song by Louise Allan

Rain Music by Di Morrissey

I'd forgotten about the surprise book until yesterday, so I thought we might give that a miss this time, but if others respond and want to do it, that's fine.

I've got a truckload of my own books that I somehow didn't get to last year, even with a bit more time and libraries closing (thank you to the e-libraries for their siren song!) so I don't have many books to give away, nor am I going to ask for any of yours, Lynne!!

I have a feeling it was Deborah that you were talking to about Disruption (I think I brought it for my surprise book and you got it?), but Deborah isn't sure if she can make it on Saturday or not. She's probably a no, but plans can always change!!

Jane | 756 comments I'd be happy to do the surprise book swap - was looking forward to it!

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Me too. :-)

lol Tower of Thorns was actually one that I returned to you I am pretty sure!

I hope you al have a great time. I am really sorry that I will be working and have to miss it.

message 10: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Yes, you did give that one back to me. But I've read it so I thought someone else might like it. :-)

I will be sorry to miss you, Deb.

Likewise! but work is work... I hope to make it to the next one!

message 12: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Yes, it is a shame to miss you, Deborah!

And I do have one book I can bring for a book swap, so let's do it on Saturday - for anyone who wants to! No dramas for anyone wanting to come but who isn't prepared!

message 13: by Alda (last edited May 06, 2021 03:54PM) (new)

Alda Saldan (bioarla) | 49 comments I am so looking forward to this catch-up on Saturday :)

I am also happy to bring a wrapped mystery book for our usual swap; I am also listing here books that I am happy to bring if someone wants to read them:
-Elizabeth & Elizabeth by Sue Williams
- The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams Jane
- Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
- The Viennese Girl by Jenny Lecoat
- The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish
- Girl by Edna O'Brien
- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

Lynne, I'd like to take Lincoln in the Bardo if it's available. I am also interested in Tower of Thorns, but I see it's the second book in a series: do I need to read the first one to understand the story?

message 14: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Alda, it would probably help if you read the first one, which I only have on Kindle, but it's worthwhile reading, if you want to get it and keep this one until you're ready. I think you could follow this story pretty well without reading it, but it does have a few spoilers in it for the first book.

message 15: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I'll bring Lincoln in the Bardo for you. :-)

message 16: by Allan (new)

Allan Walsh | 61 comments I wouldn't mind Tales of Magic & Destiny if it's still available Lynne :)

message 17: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Sure. :-)

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane | 756 comments I'd love to try 'The Dictionary of Lost Words' if its still available Alda.

I have the following up for grabs:
The Survivors by Jane Harper
Death in Daylesford by Kerry Greenwood
Going Under by Sonia Henry
Play Dead by Harlan Coben

Kylie D | 740 comments Hello lovelies,
Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long...
I will bring a mystery book, but haven’t had time to go through any of mine to swap.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow 😊

message 22: by Kylie (new)

Kylie D | 740 comments Jane is The Survivors still available?
I would love that if it is 😁

message 23: by Jane (new)

Jane | 756 comments Thanks Alda, and yes Kylie I can bring you 'The Survivors' - see you all soon!

message 24: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Well, we forgot any photos again, but it was just really good to catch up again in person with some fellow booklovers after about 15 months since our last real catch-up!

I came home with To Cook a Bear by Mikael Niemi - which is either an intriguing or really gross title!! I was just thinking that it makes me think of How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell which I vaguely remember a teacher reading to us in school!
