2015 - Readathon One Date: February 7th, 2015 - 8AM to NOON - Check-In

Please let us know who is reading during these this period of time.

Let us know the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Also, your location in the world and timezone

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

So for example:

The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott
The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott - Genre: Historical Fiction - pages start 1 - finish 80

If you finished a book - let us know that too and make sure to get it added to your readathon shelf so you can get credit for it. If it is added properly it will show up on your shelf. You have to make sure to have selected a readathon shelf and when you are done with the first book for your readathon - make sure to add the completed date and that the book is read versus currently reading.

It will show up on your shelf if you have done this properly.

Remember wherever you are you can participate in the readathon.

And if you only have one hour or four hours or plan to do this for the entire 24 hour period taking of course breaks for eating and sleeping - you can join for however long you want to read. We want to keep track of the books completed, the books started, the books in progress, the number of pages read by all, and the different genres. Great fun and this is only the first readathon - we will use the same readathon challenge for all of them so you can see your readathon shelves grow.

Additionally these books that you complete on the readathon can be added to other shelves for the Japan or India challenge or the 2015 50 Books Challenge or the goodreads yearly challenge - the sky is the limit. Any genre is welcome.

Remember folks this is the check in for anybody reading during the hours of 8AM until Noon on February 7th, 2015 (wherever in the world you are - use your time zone). If you want to get credit for any reading done during these four hours you must check in on this thread - Checkpoint 1. But for the check in to count - you must post between the hours of 8AM to Noon on February 7th in the time zone that you are in. This is the Checkpoint for those hours on February 7th. To get credit for these hours this is the thread you must post on

REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.

Make sure to answer the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Samanta in Croatia - solid beginning - terrific. In 11 minutes you are in the timeslot and Checkpoint TWO. So go over to that Checkpoint next. That is the checkpoint for folks who are in the NOON to 4PM timeslot. Since you have officially checked in you have officially received credit for this timeslot for you and you are OFFICIAL. You can participate in all of the other FIVE CHECKPOINTS (TWO THROUGH SIX) or decide which ones you want to check in at - and then you have to make sure that you CHECK OUT AT THE END which is CHECKPOINT SEVEN.

Right now get ready for CHECKPOINT TWO TO BEGIN for Croatia and Spain in less than 8 minutes.

USA you have not begun.

OK Elin you are officially in under the wire for Spain.

You are in Spain good and you have the genre.

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS NOW: (YOU ONLY HAVE TO ANSWER A AND B - ALL OTHERS YOU HAVE DONE FOR THIS CHECK IN

a) How much of the four hour timeslot did you spend on reading.
b) What page did you start with at the beginning of the readathon at 8AM your time and what page are on now for this timeslot and check in (8AM until NOON)?

===================================

Remember these are always the questions that you are answering for all of the six CHECKIN - CHECKPOINTS:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

Welcome Simon - well done. You are checked in officially.

Since you are in the UK - this checkpoint will be done for you in 30 minutes. At Noon (UK time) you go to CHECKPOINT TWO (CHECK IN )and that is the checkpoint from NOON TO 4PM. Just make sure to check in at Check point Two before 4PM UK TIME.

This is the link to your next Checkpoint - CHECKPOINT TWO: (for the Noon to 4PM timeslot) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...--

Simon, you can do all Six CHECK IN (CHECKPOINTS) and answer all of the questions for each one of them to track your progress or you can pick and choose since you are officially signed in and have gotten credit for this four hour slot. To get credit for each 4 hour slot out of the 24 hours available you have to check in for that particular timeslot assigned to those hours.

Mandatory tallies for all of the checkpoints are done at the end - CHECKOUT - which is CHECKPOINT SEVEN. You of course must check out at the end.

Good luck and Happy Reading. You are officially in.

OK - International Updates.

Croatia is IN (Samanta)

Spain is IN (Elin) - Elin you are IN - (just update the minor info needed and you will be complete for this checkpoint)

Two UK members IN (Simon complete) - Masooma - you need to answer all of the questions before Noon - you only have 15 minutes)

Portugal you only have 20 minutes to check in for this timeslot - checkin for this timeslot has to take place before NOON your time, Otherwise the first time slot that you can get credit for will potentially be for CHECKPOINT TWO (NOON TO 4PM) - Portugal not in.

Author: James A. Huston
Genre: History Originally published Gehring, Nebr.: Courrier Press, 1950.

I read pages 1-30 from 11:00 to 11:45 during this time period. It is a very well-written but dense book--not appropriate for speed reading! It promises to be a fascinating story of an infantry battalion on the ground in Europe in World War II.

Hello Bentley here on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA - Timezone is EST. Metro NYC (my location and timezone)

I am beginning The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott (name of book and author)

The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott (citation)

This book is Historical Fiction (genre)

Start Page - 1 - End Page 30 (too busy running Readathon for this segment) (start and end page numbers in)

I have spent four hours straight on the readathon and about 1 hour on reading.

No books completed.

These are the questions that I need to answer for each and every checkpoint so that each and every checkpoint and time segment can be counted: The minimum is one check in checkpoint and also the mandatory Check out Checkpoint which is Checkpoint Seven. But I want to participate for the whole thing.

Name of Book and Author or books and authors: I have done this one now for Checkpoint One - see above

Genre or genres: I have done this one now for Checkpoint One - see above

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period. - see above

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you. I have done this one now for Checkpoint One - see above

How much time did you read during this block of time: see above

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?
see above

Also, your location in the world and timezone I have done this one now for Checkpoint One - see above

Remember I will be answering these questions for all six Checkin Checkpoints (Checkpoint One through Checkpoint Six) - each and every time to measure progress and to gain credit for each particular checkpoint - and it is mandatory for me and for everyone to add all totals and all final tallies for yourself as part of Checkpoint Seven.

I am officially checked into the Readathon and all questions are answered before noon.

Author: James A. Huston
Genre: History
Mechanisburg, PA: Stackpole Books 2003. Originally ..."

Hello Nita - welcome to the Readathon - you are officially in - however before Noon you will have to answer some of the other questions to get full credit for all categories.

Let me help you

1. First you have the name of the book and the author - great that part is done.

2. Let me help you with the citation:

Biography of a Battalion The Life and Times of an Infantry Battalion in Europe in World War II by James A. Huston by James A. Huston (no photo)

Citations always have book cover, author's photo and author's link. If there is no photo - we add the words (no photo) at the end.

If you need more help with these - we have the Mechanics of the Board thread in the Help Desk folder - here is the link:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

3. You have the genre done - great

4. You listed your location but not your timezone - EST would be good after your location.
This has to be entered each and every time because as we grow and more folks sign up - it will be hard to remember where you are located and/or your timezone for some.

5. You do not have to add this: Stackpole Books 2003. Originally published Gehring, Nebr.: Courrier Press, 1950.

Alright what is missing: (these are the three segments missing which you must come back to this Checkpoint and add before NOON - just do your subtotal sometime at around 11:30AM and then at noon you move to CHECKPOINT TWO.

So come back and answer these questions - before Noon for Checkpoint ONE: (you can edit your post above and add the rest)

a) Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

b) How much time did you read during this block of time:

c) Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

Remember: for each and every checkpoint that you want credit for - you must answer these same questions:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Also, your location in the world and timezone

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

The minimum number of check ins (CHECKPOINTS AND THERE ARE SIX CHECK IN CHECKPOINTS) is one.

The minimum number of check out's is one - you must checkout and do tallies for Checkpoint Seven.

However if you want time credit and segment credit and completed books in a timeframe credit for the entire readathon - you have to hit all six CHECKPOINTS AND ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS.

Finally in all cases you MUST tally in CHECK OUT - CHECKPOINT SEVEN - hope this helps.

Enjoy the Readathon.

Karen - welcome - you are officially checked in to the Readathon.

You posted the citation correctly (well done) and you posted the name of the book and author (well done) and you posted the genre (well done)
and you posted your location and timezone (well done) and you indicated that you had no books done yet (answered good)

Now before Noon you have to come back to CHECKPOINT ONE and fill in the stats for this segment - I would say do it at 11:30AM

You need to answer the following questions:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

And of course if you do finish a book during this timeframe - you could update that. - Not mandatory because you already addressed it.

Hello Cathy you are officially registered How are things in DC?

You have the title of the book and the author - circle back when you can add the citation.

Here it is:

The Towers of Silence (The Raj Quartet, #3) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott (no photo)

You have the genre - very good

You have the start and finish pages and time - very good

You have posted your general location and timezone - excellent'

So what do you need to circle back and add - I am giving everybody who had posted extra time till I get to them on this thread one at a time.

1. Add the citation when you are not on your cell phone - just do an edit

2. Answer whether doing this timeframe you have completed any books and what they were. Add citation if you have otherwise the answer would be no.

And that would be a wrap on Checkpoint One for you Cathy in DC.

Whenever you can proceed to Checkpoint Two if you haven't already.

Checkpoint Two is the timeframe from Noon to 4PM - your local time.

War/History

Read from pages 31 to 60.

Hello Justin welcome back on the right day (smile)

Now I will go through your posting and suggest some edits and adds and you can have as much time as you need to get this done - I am still going through Checkpoint One helping everybody and this is the first pass - so things can take time - no worries. Just keep going and circle back. I will post this on your Readathon thread too.

10:00 am to 11:10 am

I'm in O..."

So we here we go - you have the citation correct - good job which posts your book and author, etc. - Perfect

You have the genre entered - perfect

You also entered the following:

Read from pages 31 to 60.

10:00 am to 11:10 am

I'm in Ohio, Eastern Standard Time

So the above tells me your start and end pages, and your start and end times for reading during this time segment and Checkpoint One - you have told me where you are and your timezone. Excellent

The only thing you need to tell me is whether during this segment you completed any books and cite those - if the answer is no - just add that you did not complete any books in this time segment.

Proceed to Checkpoint Two if you haven't already and check in - same template of questions for every checkpoint.

And circle back and add the above small edit when you can to your post on Checkpoint One.

Welcome Justin - you are officially registered.
