A Constellation of Vital Phenomena - Anthony Marra

This book takes place during wartime in Chechnya. It was a very sad book (it is about war) when I wasn't in the mood for a sad book. That being said, it is extremely well written. The language is beautiful and the characters are deep and complicated. It does not gloss over the horrors of war and how people survive it and it does offer the reader a little sliver of hope in Havva's character. It also taught me about a place and time in history that I know very little about. Overall, I recommend it - but make sure you are in the mood for a lot of sadness.
