I love the Lady Jain character, and I'm looking forward to her return after robbing the boys for the second time.

The Council Of Courts introduced a bunch of new names and I had a difficult time trying to keep things straight on who was who. Still, it was a good time as "Clay made a note to congratulate himself later for not shitting himself right then and there" for the introduction of Lastleaf.

I take it that Lastleaf is a bit of a villain here, but his speech on the "innocent people of Castia"... "Four centuries ago, when your ousted Emperor and the exiled remnants of the Imperial court arrived in Endland, they found it already inhabited by what you humans so broadly refer to as monsters. They fought with the cathiil over lands they wished to settle, and when the cathiil elected to migrate further west the innocent people of Castia hunted them to extinction" ...sounded very reminiscent of the settlement of America and the treatment of Native Americans, so it makes me kind of understand where he is coming from. If history is written from the point of view of the winners, is Lastleaf really the bad guy here. I guess we will see where things go with Saga's relationship with him...

I believe that the band is fully back together with the inclusion of Ganelon. Onward to the Maxithon!

Matrick faking his death had me laughing pretty good when they realized what his funeral entailed 😂I also liked seeing Jain again. She’s pretty great and I hope we see her again.
I thought the same thing reading that speech from Lastleaf. He’s definitely our villain, but I understand his anger.
I’ve been having a lot of fun reading this even though some of the descriptions went over my head a little bit. Some of the terms used are ones that seasoned fantasy readers might already know, but I have no clue lol. It’s easy enough to figure out or google though. I’m not gonna lie, before even starting the book I had to look up what a mercenary was, because I didn’t know 😬😂 Fantasy term or not, I didn’t know it.
Anyway, I’m still loving the humor and am glad to see the band is officially back together!
