Why were the bodies hanging in chapter 4?

Can anyone tell me why the bodies of the “rescuers” were hanging from the roof? Or more accurately, why they killed themselves/were killed? I have looked for an answer on the internet, but I can’t find anything. If it it is in a later part of the book, sorry for the waste of time, I’m only on chapter 5 at the moment.

Also, I do know that the people are actually WICKED. I watched the movies first (Before you call me a heathen: I want to enjoy the book AND the movies, not just the book and hate the movies) so nothing is really a spoiler for me.

Thanks in advance!

Well watching the movies won't tell you much - they're VASTLY different from the books.
And I think the "rescuers" aren't actually dead, it was just some trick WICKED played to confuse the Gladers and get more reactions out of them for their research.

Just W.C.K.D at it again

I agree with Alison. I think it was like how WICKED can control what the Gladers do, they can also control what the Gladers see, to some exitance. But that's just my theory.

I think it was wicked trying to scare them and see there reaction

What I was most confused by was why would WICKED want to kill their own people??? Unless they were just manipulating what the Gladers saw. I wonder if Rat Man was actually there or if they were just being manipulated???

I agree with Tyler Wolf . It was wicked just to see their reaction and show that they story haven't finished yet
