I thought Tom was a douche bag. I know that in contemporary times they are all supposed to play nice after a breakup, but he was way to solicitous of Lara. His constant presence prevented her from making a clean break and moving on.
Tom is another character in this story that rubs me wrong. I didn't like that he was always around, and I wasn't happy that Lara didn't have the backbone to tell him to get lost. I didn't see any reason for them to continue to be friends.
Tom creeped me out. I really didn't get why he was still in Lara's life considering that she broke their engagement. I suspected he was behind the threats for most of the book.
I tried to imagine myself in this situation and just couldn’t. And, what man with a spine would settle for this? It was in character for Lara to be this naive but this guy? I thought he was up to something.
I thought for the most part this was consistent with her character. She would be that person that would still remain friends with her ex-fiancé.But Tom himself? He was a douche nozzle of the highest order. Hanging around her and no backbone. Submissive to the extreme which also didn't always ring true The fact that he didn't like Connor? He knew he's time in her life was over.
