Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9539 comments I have to recommend this HBO series https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10155688... starring Kate Winslett. I think it would be a hit with any mystery/thriller fans. The mysteries to be solved are well plotted and slowly unfold over the 7 episodes; Kate Winslett is phenomenal as a police detective in a working class Philadelphia suburb. Gritty, complex, with an unbelievable (as in surprising, not fake) resolution. Highly recommend!

Karly | 342 comments I’ll second that! Absolutely loved this show. The Kate Winslet performance was incredible and the show has a strong sense of place.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9539 comments Sherry, take my advice and watch it before you accidentally run across spoilers. I may hate spoilers more than you do, but part of my love of this show was that I didn't see many of the plot developments coming.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9539 comments Ann, yes! Jean Smart was a revelation. I think she has a series coming out somewhere and if I get the channel I will definitely watch it. The cast on this show was outstanding. I also hadn't seen Guy Pearce in a while and he was on point for the small role he played. And Juliane Nicholson, who I remember from Law & Order Criminal Intent. She's popped up here in and there but boy did she shine here.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17057 comments Carol: yes, the entire cast was so amazing. Will have to look for Jean Smart's other show. She was on Fresh Air talking about it on May 12. It's Hacks on HBO Max I believe.

Yes, that's it. Hacks. Here's the premise according to Wikipedia:

Deborah Vance is a legendary Las Vegas comedy diva looking to appeal to a younger audience. Vance's agent sends Ava, an entitled 25-year old, to help freshen up the material, and Vance begins mentoring her.

It's described as a comedy/drama and Jean Smart plays Deborah Vance.
