Hi All! Welcome to the Book Review Discussion of There was Music by J.D. Grubb. This one was a hard read despite its alluring prose. There are themes of torture, rape, and suicidal thoughts that haunt the protagonist. The question of hope is constantly dangled in front of Rhoda and the reader. Q/A
1) Why do you think music was the saving grace of Rhoda's story?
2) These are sensitive subjects. Does this novel do a good job handling them?
3) What is your interpretation of the Drydren and Canta? Where do you think Rhoda fits into this larger story?
