Very interesting point Bill. I'd like to know as well.

Bill, most booksellers receive advance copies of new books ... and read them. Indie sellers even vote on their favorite of the year or month, whatever.

Tom Mathews The Dark Room. You can't go wrong with Minette Walters.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for voting Tom. You can vote for one more book.

I know. I'm not familiar enough with the other books/authors to commit to them yet. If one wins I'll take a good look at it and decide whether or not I want to read it.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay. Just wanted to let you know.

Okay folks, I'm going to close the group read vote for this month. Looking over the votes, I'm sure it's obvious that The Girl On the Train won in a close battle against Hades 9-7. I realize that in other groups, it's winner take all and obviously, we will read The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins from March 15 - April 15.
As you know, I like to do things differently here and my feeling is that Hades had drawn a lot of interest from the people in the group. My feeling is that because of that, we will have a group read for Candice Fox and her book, Hades, from April 15 - May15. I can tell you that Candice Fox will be appearing on the thread at that time.
Again, thank you for voting. The numbers are up and I will call for another vote in April, brining back The Dark Room by Minette Waters.

message 25: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) Ron, any chance of bringing in Paula Hawkins?

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I am trying to get in touch with her. Will let you know.

message 27: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Sounds good. I do want to read Girl on the Train but it's on a long hold at the library right now, which is why I voted for some others. They all sound good, so I'm glad we will be getting to some of the others after this one.

message 28: by Tom (last edited Feb 21, 2015 12:07PM) (new)

Tom Mathews I agree with Jenn. I want to read The Girl on the Train but would rather wait until the initial rush dies down.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

The other books will be brought back for a vote in the future.

message 30: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) I just looked it up at the Salt Lake County library. It's got about 500 holds and about 200 copies. Hopefully it should show up in a month.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Would people be more comfortable if I switched The Girl On the Train to April 15 - May 15?

message 32: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) Doesn't matter to me.

message 33: by Christine (last edited Feb 21, 2015 07:36PM) (new)

Christine (clt04) I have read it, but since there is a lot of interest, but no cheap way to read it, I would favor putting it off so more people could participate. Might take more than a month. My libe had 103 reserves on 3 copies. Maybe a PM to the group to see how many could participate now vs who would participate later and how later?

message 34: by Carla (new)

Carla (carla1957) Whatever works best for the group. If we put it off, what would we read instead?

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) I have already downloaded my copy....but am happy to fit in with what everyone else wants...8:D

message 36: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) Let me clarify, Ron, that I am good with whatever you think best.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal is to make everyone happy.

Carla wrote: "Whatever works best for the group. If we put it off, what would we read instead?"

Hades by Candice Fox.

Right now, I'll leave everything as is.

message 39: by Jenn (new)

Jenn I am hold 180 out of 720 holds, and I requested months ago. We will see if it ever comes in! Our library has a lucky day option, where some copies of new releases can't be renewed or put on hold, so sometimes I can get newer books that way.

message 40: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Boy GIRL ON THE TRAIN has way too many holds. Another group I'm in wants to read this in April. I'll be lucky if I get it in time.

I've requested all 3 formats from my library though:

HARD COPY: #34 (20 copies)
KINDLE: #55 (15 copies)
MP3: #18 (6 copies)

Any bets which will come in first???

Print!

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm happy to change the date on the group read for this book. This seems like a great book and I want to have everyone involved if possible.
I can move up Hades by Candice Fox.

message 43: by Jenn (new)

Jenn I will be reading it either way, so feel free to go with the majority. I prefer to mostly use the library for my books, but I know others probably already own a copy.

message 44: by Skeetor (new)

Skeetor Whatever works best for everyone is okay by me.

message 45: by Skeetor (new)

Skeetor Which book will we be starting on March 15th? (so I can look into getting a copy) With all the discussion I am not sure which one it will be. Thanks. :)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

At this point, I would say The Girl On The Train. I just want to see if Paula Hawkins will be joining us. I may have an answer this week.

message 47: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Several of my groups want to read this, it's beginning to annoy me. Part of me thinks this book is obviously overhyped and probably not worth the time.

I am very hesitant to pay full price for this thing. I have requested the hard copy, as well as the MP3 and Kindle copies, from my library.

message 48: by Bill (new)

Bill Kupersmith | 114 comments The author has done avery good job & she like any other workman, she deserves to be compensated fairly for her labours.

message 49: by Bill (new)

Bill Kupersmith | 114 comments But lest I sound sanctimonious, let me confess there are lots of authors I rely on the ICPL for copies. But for a five star I'll go the full tariff.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

In this case, my answer is that I do take pricing into consideration. Authors who been on the thread here have told me that they don't have control over the price of their book. My hope is that the reward I am giving you is to have the authors on the thread with us as compensation for reading their books.
I guess the question at this point is will you join us for the group read if Paula Hawkins joins us for a Q&A. I am very close to having an answer on this and if you would like to provide me with feedback on this, then I would appreciate that. Thanks.
