Short story, read in the 1980s but probably older. An elderly miser is constantly reminded 'you can't take it with you.' Everyone turns out for the reading of his will, but it only says 'I did take it with me.' It turns out he had all his cash hidden in his coffin and was cremated.

Okay — it definitely looks to be "You Can't Take it With You" by Eva-Lis Wuorio. (In fact, I found what looks to be the entire short story on a blog, here.)But I've not yet been able to verify where it was published. However, it looks like it was in the collection from 1977: Escape If You Can: 13 Tales of the Preternatural, based on searching inside the book (and getting the resulting snippet) from Google books, here.
