Did anyone else think that Rose should have killed Dimitri?

Claire Simply because I loved the idea of the emotional impact on Rose killing Dimitri. I wanted to see her have to deal with the pain of killing the man she loved. I wanted her to have to move on. It would have made for a far more compelling tale. Instead of what we did get for the last two books.

I think it would have been a much more powerful event and much more original and risky than most YA books are willing to do. I don't think I've ever read a YA book where the MC love interest is killed half-way through the series and doesn't come back.

The aftermath would have made for a very interesting read.

Minda~Quenn {Somehow I found a way to get lost in you} Yes and no. It's what she should have done as a dhampir but not as a woman in love.

Claire So did I, but she got people killed in her quest to 'free' him, when he wouldn't have wanted her to.

Yeah. I was annoyed with that being brushed over so quickly. About ten people got killed because Rose stopped Eddie from staking Dimitri and it was just sort of forgotten a few pages later.

Claire and she could have had a relationship with Adrian that wasn't so...so..
golddiggery... I mean Adrian was a decent guy and she totally lied to him for use of his gold card.

S.L.J. I think it's kinda funny that Victor Dashkov never actually killed anyone in the series and he was the bad guy but Rose got a bunch of people killed and killed him but she's the good guy. Victor lied and manipulated people and so did Rose. Both of them were broken out of jail and went on the run. Both helped bring Sonja back and both wanted Lissa to be queen.

It's weird when you look at it objectively.

Katherine Dimitri should have stayed alive. If he died that would be the worst. I love Dimitri !!!!Who doesnt

Alice yeah i think the story would have been better if Rose had killed Dimitri. And i wish the author had treated Adrian better in the series.

PinkPepper No! I love Dimitri! But Adrian does get treated better in bloodlines.

Jessica☆ I'm glad Dimitri stayed alive cause I prefer him with Rose :)

Claire I did like him with Rose but I would have loved to see her let him go. Having Rose manage to 'save him' at the expense of a ton of innocent people was awful.... and lets not forget when he held her prisoner, making her into a blood slave. Rose should have let go after he crossed the line... I would have loved her to grieve and let the experience make her a stronger character, rather than the mouthy entitled brat she was for the entirety of the series run.

Jojo I think, basing off the general reader population, that if Mead had killed Dimitri off she would have lost a huge fan base. And Rose never could have ended up with Adrian it is just too unsettling for the readers because she doesn't love him. And if Mead had had Rose and Adrian together, then there would be no base for the Bloodlines series...

Claire Yeah I know.... I wasn't particularly bothered about the Adrian thing, I just would have loved her to have to deal with something so huge. I mean the bit when she fought him at the end and thought she killed was heart wrenching... it would have been a great opening for Lissa to step up and comfort/protect Rose for a change. It could have strengthened their friendship and properly set up Lissa becoming Queen with Rose as her bodyguard in charge of a new order. Instead it turned into a book revolving around Rose and her boyfriend(s).

Jojo I think it was obvious from Frostbite when Lissa stood up at the party and everyone was in awe of her that she would have done great things. I get the whole wanting Rose to have to deal with something so huge as the love of her life dying but she did go through something huge, him being a strigoi and being stuck with him for months unable to do something, it was huge, and I think if Dimitri had actually died, Mead would probably have ended with the fourth book because I think the whole Rose chasing Dimitri and then Dimitri hunting down Rose thing was probably one of my favorite parts

Katherine yes . i agree those were my favorite parts too

S.L.J. YA books rarely if ever take risks like killing the main love interest. If they were going to do that, they would have done it at the end of the first or second book like mason and then given the MC time to find a new love interest with the rest of them. They are too kid friendly to do anything that gritty or realistic.

Personally, I think doing something like that really opens up a books potential and allows the author to take characters in amazing directions. Like when Ned Stark was killed in Game or Thrones, it pretty much changed everything. Or when Dean died and went to Hell in Supernatural. etc.

It's a shame more authors don't take the chance to truly shake things up. I enjoyed VA and Bloodlines but I found both series very predictable because it was obvious that RM wasn't going to kill off any of the main characters after Mason.
