(view spoiler)[It's amaaaziingg, I can't believe I didn't read this sooner, I'm loving the dark ambience.
Yeah Kat doesn't have the gift but she doesn't need it to win, she just needs to poison Mirabella and Arsinoe which I don't think she's going to do. Maybe they'll find a loophole in the competition ,Maybe they'll become the best of friends AH I cant wait to find out.
I just think the only one who actually has a decent life is Arsinoe because Mira and Kat are just, I mean they have pretty awful lives.

I read a few more chapters and it all started to make sense
And I even went on fandom wiki to find out a bit about natalia, and the black council

The black council is made of people who are gifted right? they aren't queens right?

And also each triplet is brought up by people of similar powers right and they have no relation to their mom ?

Chapter 4 Rolanth

(view spoiler)[I think Arinsoe is a poisonist and Kat is a naturalist because its so coincidental that Ari is giftless and Kat is a weak Poisonist. See if Kat is a naturalist, then it would make sense that she is a weak poisonist because then the posionous plants wont affect her therefore people must have thought she's a poisonist rather than naturalist (hide spoiler)]

No set pace, but we are planning to read as much of the series as we can

And poor Kat thinks Mirabella is stuck up, but she's just so very nice
I like Elizabeth, I hope she gets to leave the priestesses and do what she wants to.
Mirabella is powerful but I don't think she could possibly kill her sisters ah this whole affair is so heartbreaking

I've just finished chapter 3, Wolf Spring, and is it just me or there is just too much info with too many names all at once?
It's kinda throwing me off. But other than that, I'm really intrigued!

Not necessarily gifted... because you remember Arsinoe mentioned that the Black Council sent only Renata for her birthday celebration, who was not even gifted, and she and Jules took offense to that...

The first three chapters are introducing each of the queens, so that is why you feel omg so many names and introductions

But you'll def get used to it.

I am struggling so much with this because I keep getting caught in the details...

for example, the book tells us that Jules, Joseph and Arsinoe ran away. But they were caught and the people (I think Black Council) banished Joseph. Jules's sentence was to be the midwife and nurse the queens. Her company being the Queen and the King Consort during the pregnancy, and the triplets until they grew to the age of claiming.

I don't get this.

How could Jules's sentence be to be with the pregnant Queen when Jules got the sentence in the first place because of running away with one of those triplets!?!

just later it says that they were all of 11 years old.

but how could that be if she was sentenced to be with the pregnant Queen? Jules would have to be old enough to be sentenced as a midwife and definitely older than the triplets

Okay I'll explain
So basically
Jules, Joseph and Arinsoe wanted to escape the island but they got caught in the mist and weren't able to escape this was when they were 11. I think Joseph is a little older but that is not relevant here. Anyway so as a punishment Joseph was banished for five years to the mainland(as you know), Jules was punished to be a midwife and banished to the black cottage and Arinsoe was not punished because she is a queen.

Jules' aunt Carragh basically was a mom to Jules right so obviously she did not want Jules to suffer so she took Jules' place as a midwife and nurse and she went to the black cottage instead.

Also the whoever is banished to the black cottage they are not able to have any contact with anyone and cannot leave until the next set of triplets are born.

I get that part. But who was Jules a midwife to? The book says she was midwife to the queen (actual mother of the triplets) and Jules was supposed to nurse them till they come of age.

that's what has got me confused.

So I did some research, namely checked out Jules on the fandom website, and it says there, I quote
"Jules was to be sent to the Black Cottage to be trained as the Midwife for the future queens. Her aunt Caragh spared Jules from this fate by taking her punishment for her."
So Jules was not the midwife but she was supposed to train to be midwife to the next queen and nurse them
Is that better?

Okay, I've finished till chapter 17. That's 50% of the book and I'm finally enjoying it! The mental block has gone guys!! The book is getting better!!! 😍

Where I'm at, she has left Rolanth and found Joseph drowning. Saved him and shared some passionate moments with her 😏 and now I am so curious to see what happens to both of them as they go on their own paths! Uff! Mystery mystery! (hide spoiler)]

But the best chemistry is between Pietyr (why couldn't he be just Peter?) and Kat 😍😍
